Are you an NIL insider or following Twitter? Not coming after you just suspicious that anyone knows anything. It’s pure chaos.
Speculation on JP here. I’m in the know at a few places. Nothing deep. I’ll answer any questions that I can

Will be excited when we coral a solid big to protect the rim. Still time for some kids to enter the portal. Who knows, maybe the next Rony Seikaly will knock on Gmacs door. I would be calling Fran Fraschilla for some leads.

So your okay if we got jp but it left us with nothing after?
So we can play 1 v 5? Of course not, we'd lose. What you guys are missing is that lots of SU fans for the first few years of NIL loved to turn their nose up to players and claim others overpaid. They didn't want to "over pay" to retain, and didn't want to "over pay" to get new talent. We got no one. Our program was terrible, fans get nothing for the apparent moral victory of others "overpaying", and our program's valuations seemed to be 1-2 years behind each year. Putting that aside, there is no such thing as overpaying. What our competitors will pay for a player is the going rate for that player. That's the way everything works, not just basketball transfers -- the best evidence of fair market value is an arms' length transaction--i.e. basically what someone is willing to pay in the free market. So the money Michigan paid for Estrella is currently the best evidence of his fair market value. They didn't overpay, they set the market. It doesn't matter what we think about the number, and even if it did our fans/program are usually failing to account for year over year inflation anyway. If we want big time players we need to drop the overpaying mentality and start meeting the market.

Yeah man, that's like, word for word I was going to say.

But in all seriousness, perfectly stated.

A high end big that can play both ends and is a good fit is what I want in the middle. We were top 10 in blocks last year and finished 15-17 because we were still awful defensively. A lot of that is coaching but it’s not as simple as having a shot blocker at the 5.

Remember how good we thought we were going to be defensively after the first couple games? Seems like forever ago.

I still strongly believe the staff treated Houston like a season making game and over prepared for it (like they should any game but didn’t) and that was fools gold for us as fans to see.

I promise you this is an overpay.

Didn’t Indiana offer 4? This has to be around 5. LOL!
He may not have taken the biggest bag. I know that’s hard to believe. But look at Yaxel and lots of other players. He stated he could have went to Kentucky for a lot more. The best fit and coaching staff matters. I’m also very skeptical of all the numbers being thrown around online.

That’s a possibility too!

A 1st round exit? Hey if that’s fine with them okay. To me giving a player 7 mil to just get to the 1st round is a head scratcher.
You didn't say if they were happy with a 1st round exit.

You said if they were happy they gave a guy a bunch of money.

They are.

I actually do know this.

Riley Allenspach from GMU; that’s my guess for stretch 4

Pair him with Frank Mitchell from the Bonnies

Allenspach can shoot it and great touch in the paint. The space in between might be an issue, not sure there is ACC strength (I watch them a lot).

Gimme their lead guard Mincy though.

"Michigan OvErPaiD for JP" when the reality is he's one of the best big men on the market. We have no real idea how this market operates, no idea how much these athletes are being paid, or how teams are valuing them. To say we "dodged a bullet here" is pretty ridiculous, when the reality is even with our recent improvements in NIL we are going to be lucky just to be in the mix on the top targets we want.

I think there’s a bigger picture to it than that.

How much revenue did BYU basketball generate this year with Dybantsa on the team compared to prior years when he wasn’t? What was the ROI on whatever portion BYU paid AJ?

I believe a lot of his NIL package were brand deals with Nike, Fanatics, etc. What was their ROI on signing AJ as a client. Nice visibility factor for BYU.

Future recruiting benefits? They got another top kid to take his place. Stream of NBA lottery picks still means something. AJ has mentioned BYUs player development program. BYU is a place you want to go to get to the league type message.

A lot of layers to it.

We have the money to be in the mix with the top targets. It’s already been stated a billion times by people who know more than we do.
