Please re-read these two articles from last year:

This guy was directing the offense last year. Is there any wonder why it failed?

A few quotes just to jog everyone's memory:

"If I would've known I was only going to get 18 games to be offensive coordinator, I would've stayed at the University of Arkansas," McDonald said on Tuesday night. "I would've never came here."

"You go back to like the 3rd and 1, 4th and 1 and you're like, '***, if I would've... I should've..., but when you're in the flow, you're like, '*** it, here we go: Let's run this and this.'" McDonald said. "And if it works, you're like 'That was a great call.' And if it doesn't work, you're like, 'That wasn't a good call.' And that's kind of how calling plays works."

Lester may not be the answer to everyone's prayers, but I'm thankful McDonald has hit the road.

Its hard to imagine the offense being "worse" than last year, so Lester has that going for him. Not to mention a healthy TH for most of the year (we hope).

Onto those quotes, MacDonald just was not media savvy. As someone who knew he would want to be hired again as a coordinator, saying *^% It, as a means to decide what play to call, does not instill confidence. Not a resume building PR campaign he was putting on. Those thoughts should be buried, as far as anyone was concerned, we just didn't have the personnel. Injuries killed us, anything but %^& it! :bang:

Yep. I was asked recently why I have any hope about Cuse football. This is a big reason - addition by subtraction.

Each of his years the offense took a big steps back.

2013 4900 yds and 23 ppg vs 6200 and 30 ppg
2014 3960 and 17 pgg vs 4900 and 23 ppg

He managed to lose a 1000 yds and a td each year.

That's remarkably bad.

Yeah, I think most coaches are just getting an initial feel for their offense after 18 games:(

mcdonald was a complete bozo

the offense he bought off the shelf from mazzone is an inferior version of other basic spread offenses that was too reliant on bubble screens (after all mazzone needs to do something different for someone to justify buying the n zone)

mcdonald was too stupid to understand the bubble screen and took an offense that used it too much to begin with and stupidly took out the read component of it

and his QB was very bad at throwing the ball

AND YET we still watched that offense get 589 yards in a game

which seems to show that spreading a defense out with a running QB works. it's just not enough to overcome an incompetent bozo who couldn't call plays or understand the playbook he bought or a QB who can't really throw the ball at all

but we throw out the baby with the bathwater so we can get more multiple with h backs and TE

You're going to be surprised when we spread them out to run this year.

not as much. there's a reason why we have more H backs and TE. if they're spread out wide all the time, they're not h backs and TE anymore

For arguments sake, I'd say our H Backs and TE's look more like WRs than anything else. So they'll probably be used as such.

Proof is in the pudding, though. Not saying Lester is the end all, be all, or that his system will prove to be effective.

But my larger point was McDonald was an idiot.

Yep. Exactly. That's what the coaches call "multiple"...

i think estime and broyld will be most effective outside getting the ball when they happen to be open

Estime is listed as a WR I think. Broyld is an H-back.

Thats how calling plays works, if you are terrible at calling plays.

Reminds me of how I play Xbox.

There's no such thing as an HBack. It's a way for a coach to describe a wideout differently. That's all. Drives me nuts.

When I saw the sweep call to AAM out of the endzone turn into a safety, I had a flashback to 5 years prior. Very similar call by our Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator of our 2nd grade mighty might team - pitch left to our 3rd string running back - heavier kid and a little slower than our 2 main backs. Guess what! Same result. I still razz him to this day on that call. Worst call I ever saw in 2nd grade might mights. Worst call I ever saw in college football.

When I see HBack i think Half-back as in the primary ball carrier, when did HBack become the new term for slot receiver because that's exactly what the same thing was called 30 years ago wasn't it?

That single play call is reason enough to fire anyone. I don't care what their resume is.

Getting cute in that situation is a sign of someone who doesn't know what the they are doing.

He was horrible to begin with plus he was a classic choker. Lester will do just fine

The greatest play call of all-time, you mean.

Oh, and Louisville was a top rated defense.
