Just for fun and information

How would you feel about our team next season if this was our team. Now, this
is just for fun. No inside info here.
PG Claude from USC
SG JJ
Center Ballard from WSU
SF Jam Watkins from FSU
PF Freeman

It would be more athletic -- a team capable of getting up and down the floor. Would also have three proven scorers [and a 4th in Freeman].

Shooting anemic, though. But better in many other respects [athleticism, defense, etc.]

Who would be back-ups coming off bench?

Seems like it would lack 3 point shooting. Really need at least two guys who are 3 point dead eyes.

This would be a solid starting lineup. The only concern would be outside shooting, but that is it. The biggest positive is that the team is way more athletic than in previous years.

My point in doing this exercise is that you give up something to get something. A better shooting 1 or 3 would be great. They also might not (probably wouldn't) provide other things that Claude and Watkins do.

If there's some shooting off the bench I would take that. If Claude/Watkins/Freeman could produce a 36-38% shooter that can work. Very physical team.

Didn't we do this last year? And the projections were not at all what came to fruition?

I'll get excited when, at minimum, we have 3 impact starters coming in out of the transfer portal, at least two of which can shoot and play defense.

I wanted my Milwaukee Bucks to draft Jamir Watkins last year so getting him to be our SF would make me thrilled; thought he had run out of eligibility but frankly I have no idea how all the exceptions work at this point. Ballard feels like a near best case scenario for us at C at this point too. Claude's lack of shooting worries me next to JJ but we'll see I guess (or we won't see).

You believe that the guys we brought in last year were in the same league with the three I just used? I mean, that is ridiculous. So I will put you down that you wouldn't' be happy with those three. Who do you realistically think we can get?

I didn't say that. I said we went through this conjecture exercise last year where we said "what if our lineup looked like" and included the likes of Erik Reynolds, Dakota Leffew, and a few others that we didn't get.

I prefer to wait until we actually have kids committed and signed up before we start building excitement. Along with 'we think we are in the driver seat' type recruitments that have gone sideways under the current and previous regime, I think it's premature to look ahead at anything like that.

Okay. I did make it clear that this was just for fun. I don't know for sure who we are going to get. I like our chances for Claude a lot. But things happen in life and they can change. Sometimes for the better. But that wasn't the question I asked here. I asked, what would you guys think if that was our team? It doesn't make much sense to me to actually comment on the question by refusing to answer it. Just ignore it would make more sense.

I missed the part last year when we added 2 17+ points/game proven dynamic scorers from P5 programs.

just pack the paint and that team isn’t scoring a lick in the half court. You’d have to be out running, forcing turnovers by the double to have a chance with this team IMHO our coaching staff hasn’t proven they’re good enough for me to trust that lineup at all.

Have we done that yet? That's my only point.

And to answer the "fun" question, I still would not feel comfortable with that team being great due to the coaching being a 3 out of 10 at best.

Additionally, Watkins can't shoot - volume scorer on a bad team, a souped up, more athletic JJ. Same with Claude.

They're all redundant players.

Watkins game frustrates me as an opponent, because he is so damn physical and forces teams to foul him. If he were wearing Orange, I would love it, because the dude is TOUGH and physical. We need both of those attributes. I love the athleticism of that whole lineup. As mentioned, it lacks shooting, but that team would compete every game and it would have senior leadership and toughness. I would sign up for that.

Part of the offense would be offensive rebounds.
