Just watched 5 seconds of...

Did you know Arizona State, Iowa, BYU, and Missouri all finished renovations to their stadiums in 2019? Me either. You know why? Because I'm not a fan of any of those teams and do not care.
I think the argument is that half of SU’s roster comes from the northeast (or at least non-south). Our improvement as a program largely comes at the expense of the B1G (for the most part), but it helps the perception of the ACC as top-heavy. It’s in the ACC’s interest to push us (and some of the other northern teams), as we indirectly benefit the league (as a whole) without creating a high cannibalism risk.

Watching ACC coverage has taught me to seek out fast food whenever I'm south of Maryland. (It's not something I usually eat.)

Bojangles biscuits are worth a visit. Zaxby's chicken is better.
Pass on the (southern) junk food, and the commercials. As to the RSNs, of course SU-GT isn't Clemson-'Bama. At the same time, there's no reason "regional" teams should be treated so unfairly, dragged into sleazy media side-deals that put money in the pockets of Fox Sports/Raycom and not member schools. Regional games get usurped for market leverage, not actual broadcasting. That's corrupt.

Pass on the (southern) junk food and the commercials. And while I get that SU-GT isn't exactly Clemson-'Bama, you offer a pretty rosy view of RSN's - which are sleazy side-deals that benefit Fox Sports/Raycom far more than ACC member schools. The league wants its cake (northern markets and recruiting) and to eat it too (24/7 tobacco road programming and game selection). That's not right. With our record, I can accept "regional" status, but the RSN contracts are corrupt.
If you want to talk about corruption and college sports, it goes a little further than RSN contracts.

Fair point. RSN's are one of many corrupt parts of the college game, but they are clearly having a disproportionate impact on SU this year. That's why I made the point. Sorry to tee off on you. Nothing personal.

They're actually sleazy side-deals that put money in the pockets of Fox Sports/Raycom instead of member schools. The league seems to want its cake (northern markets and recruiting) and still eat it too (24/7 tobacco road programming and game selection). With our record, it's understandable that we would be relegated to "regional" status. But that shouldn't mean that SU games are peddled to carriers for market leverage instead of actual broadcasting. That's just flat out corrupt.

the YES network had a conflict. And there plenty of other ways to watch it.

no big deal

Yeah, but did the league covertly conspire against those schools in an attempt to diminish their brand, hurt recruiting, limit their TV exposure, hide the improvements to the stadiums, and force their fans to watch southern based commercials? I think not. Next you are going to claim that UMASS is not destined for the BiG10.

It is absolutely a big deal. First of all, Fox knew quite well that there was an MLB conflict. But instead of allowing another carrier to pick up the rights, it had Yes (which it owns) sit on them for its own lucre. Second, the move sent many hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of SU and GT fans scrambling for streaming sources. Some didn't think it was a big deal, but many others got cut off. That's why these black-out/side deals are so odious. They reduce viewership dramatically, by some estimates 40%. It's a dirty practice that goes back to early nepotism days with Swofford sending regional game$ to his son at Raycom (remember MSG+?). For some reason, this has persisted with the new ACC NW even though it could easily have been eliminated. Just require "buy-and broadcast". Any ACC game sold to a regional carrier MUST be aired in the teams' prime viewing areas - full stop. ACC schools deserve that. Instead, ESPN/ACC are allowing league football games to be blacked out for 'subscription leverage' by sleazy media companies (FOX) . . . at the expense of member institutions, their recruits and their fan-bases. That's not right.

That is after spending upwards of 200 million to rebuild the stadium and on its reopening day the ACC can't even give Syracuse an ACC network game with a little publicity. That is close to criminal negligence, in my book. Wildhack has no juice, apparently.

The announcers wouldn’t stop saying the C word either. It’s the Dome now y’all.

But yeah Wildhack should have gotten the game moved to a local channel the minute RSN conflicting with the Yankees was announced.

I am impressed they got the roof done in that timeframe.

The old roof was like a practice bubble, it worked fine and was great, but very utilitarian. The new roof with the hanging video system and lighting really made it look impressive on TV. It creates a dynamic feel and look for the old structure. I would go as far as to say that it creates one of the best venues for college sports in the country.

You’re joking right? Sun Devil stadium has been around since the 50’s and hosted Super Bowls, BCS Championship games, NFL Cardinals for 18 years and the Fiesta Bowl for like three decades

Its better known as Texas Stadium West from their days in the NFC East.

Fans don't even whine about the location of the new one for football even though they b+m non stop for having to drive there for hockey and blame attendance on that and of course Sun Devil is in an ideal location.

The university didn't care as they specifically had Colgate lined up for what should have been the new roof opener. That gets RSN'd automatically.

Do they play basketball there too? Nope.

So by that criteria The Rose Bowl or the Coliseum or Michigan Stadium or any other college stadium isn’t as iconic as The Dome because they don’t play basketball there?
That makes The Dome unique but doesn’t automatically make it more iconic

Has any college venue had more events played in it? I don't know the answer but it is an interesting question to ponder. It's only 40 years old but it must be near the top or heading there soon.

Well let’s look at the facts we lost the last basketball coach we had due to him wanting to coach in a dome.

Since we built the Dome our basketball coach hasn’t left for another job while nearly every other program has changed coaches a dozen times.

It’s more iconic to YOU and to US because the Dome has played a significant part in all of our lives.

The Dome has NOT played a significant part in the lives of most of the rest of the ACC viewing audience. Since we have been ACC members how many iconic sporting events have we played at the dome? And by iconic I don’t great Syracuse moments, I mean national moments. 3? A couple Duke basketball games and the Clemson victory?

The reason we are relegated to RSN and to treated like second class citizens in the ACC (officiating aside) is because WE ARE. It hurts to say it, but we have been largely terrible in football since joint the conference and average to mediocre at basketball. We have 1 ACC tournament win since joint the conference, we have had one winning season in football. Our school is beloved to us, but is not winning at a rate that makes them relevant to other people who haven’t been watching SU sports for all the years we have.

When we fix our ish and stop sucking on the field and on the court (and you better believe that time is coming and coming soon) then we will be in ACC promos, we will be prime time games all the time and we won’t be a team that will be ignored. While we suck, that’s what we will be. It’s only in the ACCs best interest to promote the biggest programs and hype up the games between the best competition. Right now we are neither of those. But when we start winning then they will hype us up. People think there is a southern bias that prevents that from happening, regardless of whether it’s true or not, it’s on Cuse athletics to get good enough that we cannot be ignored and prove that we should be treated with more respect

The Carrier dome is very well known in every corner of this country, to college sports fans. I can see the reason Maryland desperately wanted out of the ACC.

The Dome is well known. It has had numerous national iconic moments over its history. Very few of those since we joined the ACC.

what does Maryland leaving the ACC have to do with the dome?

Our dome is iconic in college sports. The hoops atmosphere to the best seat in college fb, I have had friends from FSU and Clemson and NCST in the building and they loved the sight lines. Unlike any other facility and they were never closer to their beloved teams.

There really isn’t a bad seat in the house for football (unless we’re losing)

There are a ton of terrible basketball seats, but the game is only part of the reason why you go to the +50k events. The atmosphere and sense of history is unreal.

Actually, a packed Dome is electric in general.

EDIT: I agree with that you wrote, even if my close to incoherent ramblings don’t make that agreement abundantly clear lol

The fact is the poster said none of those stadiums are as well known or iconic as The Dome. I mentioned Sun Devil Stadium is well known and has held iconic events. I had no idea they renovated because I don’t care, just like others don’t know about the Dome because they don’t care

I'm a sports fan and I'm interested in new stadiums and arenas like the new ones that Las Vegas and Los Angeles built for their NFL teams. So I'm sure other sports fans and recruits would be interested in the dome update. Usually when a college stadium is upgraded it makes a little difference but it's not very dramatic. The new dome roof and video system makes it seem like an entirely new facility, a new era dome.
