Kalan Ellis no longer with the program

You can be one summer course short on May 1st, Maybe thats a different portal window?

Dealing with kids like I do, there are many where Hope is the key word on May 1st.

There were two portal windows one for undergrads which closed on 4/30 and the other for grads 5/1.
I would think if a kid hasn't graduated, or isn't sure they will, they could always enter the portal as an undergrad if they are still interested in playing a sport at another school. Scholarships for P5 football players are still guaranteed for four years. There is always the option to stay at the current school and get a degree while no longer on the team.

Correct me if I’m wrong CuseLegacy but do you still need to enter the portal to go to a lower division?
I haven't seen anything that says they aren't required to enter the transfer portal if they are transferring to a lower division. The NCAA has requirements that have to be met to transfer like making sure the player meets academic qualifications. Plus the portal is like a "candidate" placement site. It's a way for schools to know a player is transferring and is eligible.

I believe that the only players that don't have to enter the portal are kids transferring from a NAIA school to a D1, 2 or 3 or walk-ons.

With Ellis leaving, what is the current scholarship headcount?

A lesson Will Hicks never learned.
I'll give this information here since you're incessant criticism of Will Hicks over the years is so irrelevant relating to Ellis' situation. This is totally on Dino's staff.

I been told by a very reliable source that HCFB and staff were shocked/appalled with the team's overall S&C program when they arrived. They described the players as "soft" and believe (like many here) that their lack of proper training/conditioning may have led to the ridiculous number of injuries and the extended rehabilitation times.

As we've all heard in the various staff interviews, one of the goals was to transform players bodies...especially reducing body fat percentage. I think the writing was on the wall for Ellis because there is no way he could compete at his weight. I hope he finds a good landing spot and, eventually, gets his weight under control.

Hicks is great to have around. All the alumni communicate through him. He makes them feel valued and that's what Fran wants.

Thanks for sharing that info. I am not surprised. True story here. The first year Dino came in. He did a coaching clinic for local HS coaches. Each coach presented including Edinger. Edinger was so unprepared. He talked about nothing. His presentation started off about a date he had the previous night. I had no confidence in him after that.

I wouldn't want to be his landing spot.

Hicks is absurdly beloved and he's so well connected. He's valuable from both a strength and conditioning perspective -- he's been doing this forever and can provide guidance in terms of regimens. But the extra he brings from a networking perspective is phenomenal. He's also just an awesome guy. One of Fran's first calls was asking Hicks to stay and help him in a bunch of ways.

As a reminder to others - Hicks was brought back during the end of the Dino era to oversee issues within the training program and was making recommendations to JW. I'll echo what others have said about Sean without going into too much details but he was woefully unqualified for the role. Dino's loyalty to him cost the team wins and I bet caused injuries.

I always assumed that Edinger was bringing an updated perspective on S&C, one that was going beyond standard weight training and conditioning; that his martial arts background was going to somehow be an advantage.
That’s incredibly disappointing that he was just a guy who was never prepared for this level.

I think members of the waltzing matilda brigade have been politely thanked for their service, after which they have been escorted out of the building...Good luck to them all.
Escorted out of the building implies some kind of malfeasance. I think it’s disappointing for all that it didn’t work, kid showed promise, and I get he owns his conditioning , but why kick him or anyone else on the way out the door when it’s like this. No sign he’s a bad kid.

Didn't realize we had any australians on the team

Malfeasance was your interpretation. DetailAccountableRelentlessTough implies that certain standards will be maintained without excuse or apology. I think you can fail to maintain those standards for any number of reasons, malfeasance only being one of them. I celebrate the introduction of a meritocracy that acknowledges the values of self-discipline, sustained effort, and continuous improvement and leadership that imposes consequences when expectations are unmet.

To further cement this point, if you watch the no destination podcast the Big General talks about how weak the S&C program was when he got here….said he was doing harder stuff at his HS in Texas

Oof.

I have been there when Hicks was head lifting coach and the only thing I wasn’t in love with was the technique wasn’t as clean as it should have been. His concepts and program were pretty dead on and at the time the guys were drinking muscle milk. They were only allowed so many grams of protein in a certain shake. All college was like that which is dum as f in reality. Ncaa was so bad they monitored protein consumption. Wth. Anyways he was really well liked and loved the hangclean and used it as the main lift if I remember correctly. Yes squatting and benching were also used but I like tighter technique. Some guys weren’t squatting parallel and then bench was all bounce with butts in air all over the place. Tiller was there and that’s a big human. Wow. Throwing 90 lb curls like he was warming up. He damn near scared the shttttt outta my 2 olineman who thought they were d-1 guys until that day lmao. He did good there and also they got Cory Parker there too who does olympic sports as the lifting coach. Cory is a great guy and a better coach especially in running and technique of lifting. Would make my son do something over and over till his technique was perfect and then would let him move up in weight. I really do like these new guys too though. Very detailed plans for each single individual cause every kid needs something different or has different weaknesses. High schools are about a general program mostly and I followed at Central Square what Cory basically had our kids doing but we didn’t have mandatory lifting so I only had 15 kids. I could fix some of their bad points but if I had 45 guys then u need a cookie cutter program to follow cause u or me couldn’t spot every kid. Anyways, coach Hicks knows his stuff and is a benefit tonour program no matter what capacity it’s in. Sorry I kinda ran off topic.
