Kansas PG Naadir Tharpe transfering

Why would you transfer after your junior year? That's so weird to me. Stay three years only to leave? Just bizarre.

Kansas may not be renewing his scholarship I don't know. He was a solid player nothing special, but would be perfect for us as a 2nd PG. Kansas is going after that PG from Raliegh who was committed to App State and is down to KU and NC State. Their may not be any room at the inn for Tharpe or he didn't want to be the 13th guy.

My first thought was that they were getting Devonte Graham...kind of a James Thues situation.

I should have read the link first, but a NSFW warning would have been nice

2nd PG? This kid would be at worst a 50/50 shot to start if he transferred here, IMO.

I don't disagree I meant 2nd PG on the roster. We only have 1 PG on this roster right now in Kaleb Joseph.

Not sure how well that would sit with Joseph. He was prepared to chill for a year behind Ennis, but when Ennis declared, he was told that he's our man. It would be tough for even the most even-keeled guy to be okay with dropping back down to #2, behind a newcomer.

Truthfully, I think we need another big guy even more than another point. Assuming Coleman's not healthy, we are thin at C and that's assuming Obokoh is ready to play.

I watched quite a few KU games this year and Tharpe ALWAYS did something stupid in all the big games to throw "gasoline on the fire". His numbers absolutely do not tell the whole story. If KU had a pure point guard they would have won it all IMO. I hope he transfers to Georgetown or Pitt.:p

Joseph is also a newcomer Quite frankly, who cares what he wants. This is about the team. If he still wants to start, earn it.

Why don't you guys give up on the transfer scenario. It's not going to happen with him or anyone else.

Unless the player is a bonafide stud I hate how people think its manifest destiny for such and such a player to be only player at a certain position to play. I want as many good players getting minutes as possible. When you only play 1 PG if that PG struggles or gets foul trouble then the team is in big trouble. I can't understand the belief Kaleb Joseph should be given the keys to the PG without a backup and be expected to play high 30 mpg and be as good as Ennis. It doesn't happen. Go look at Dion Waiters MPG as a FR or Scoop Jardine MPG as a FR they weren't expected to play 30 mpg like Joseph will. I would love to get Thorpe and if Joseph is going to complain about earning his minutes as a FRESHMAN then he doesn't belong in our program.

Naadir Tharpe is leaving Kansas, the school announced Thursday.

“Due to extenuating circumstances within my personal life, I will no longer be attending the University of Kansas,” Tharpe said in a statement. “My daughter has current medical issues that require weekly visits to her physician, as well as with a specialist. At this juncture, I feel it is best to be closer to home where I can assist and support in any way necessary

Schools he could look at are UConn(1hr from Worcester, MA) Boston College(2hrs from Worcester, MA), UMass(1 hour from Worcester, MA), Syracuse(4 hours from Worcester) and Holy Cross type schools

Is he going to get caught by that new NCAA transfer rule? Since it goes into effect in August, wouldn't he not be eligible to play next year, or if he starts somewhere this summer, does he get in under the wire?

I would assume that picture isn't of his baby's mother. Saw on the Kansas board there is some other selfies he took including one of a girl riding him. Pretty poor judgement.

I do hope is daughter is ok, though . More important than hoops for sure.

Scary part to the whole thing is the woman is a married 38 year old high school nurse. Reports is she resigned and probably looking for a husband.

I hate how people think that it is manifest destiny that a transfer would come here. We're only playing 1 PG because our current frosh PG unexpectedly was a one-and-done. It wasn't by design.

I'm sure that the staff would willingly consider adding a backcourt transfer to bolster depth, provided that said transfer was a better option than players already on the roster. Our involvement with Antonio Barton last season was evidence of that. But if players don't fit our system or don't represent substantive upgrades, then why bother bringing them in?

But yeah--if Tharpe wants to come here [no idea if we are actually involved], then I can't imagine that the coaching staff wouldn't take him.

LOL Nobody expects all transfers to come here. This is a fanboard and all I am doing is discussing potential additions. However WE HAVE 1 PG on the roster and discussing Tharpe isn't ridiculous. He is going closer to home in Worcester, MA which is 4 hours away from Syracuse and he and SU could make a little bit of sense if both are interested. I don't think its Manifest Destiny for any transfer to come here, but the people who say why would transfer X come here to be a backup it ticks me off. As all transfers don't play 30 mpg wherever they go. We have only have Kaleb Joseph on the roster next year and he is going to be a freshman and isn't as highly rated as Tyler Ennis. There could be minutes available here if he decided to come to SU. As he wouldn't be behind 2 or 3 other guys. If we are going to be decent next year we will need steady PG play, but without a 2nd PG I will just pray we safely make the tournament next year.
