If you're a Vegas oddsmaker, what would you set the point spread at for that hypothetical matchup?

Do they play an NBA game where the players allow each other to pad stats for three quarters and then start trying, or do they play a college game where teams are trying to win every possession?

Whichever scenario makes you happy. ;)

Well I think if the Wizards play NBA style and UK played college style, then the cats might have a chance. Otherwise it would be like a college team against a high school state champion team. NBA players would clearly win.

OK, then for the sake of argument, let's say college rules to make it more even.

When people make statements like 'UK could beat the Wizards' or even exist on the floor of them or 'Miami could beat the Bengals' (back in the early 2000s), that is when you should realize they know nothing whatsoever about sports and should be ignored.

Not saying anyone did that here, though, because they didn't.

The reason I asked was, I think Anthony Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, and Terrence Jones could all potentially start for Washington right now, and Teague/Lamb would probably get minutes. I agree that 99% of the time, a pro team would simply dominate a college team. But I would be inclined to put the spread around Wash -15 or so which means it wouldn't be a rout by any stretch.

NBA rules or College Rules?

Ah it, doesn't matter, Kentucky gets destroyed either way.

Per quarter

I'm thinking 15 or so seems about right, though maybe it should be higher. UK doesn't have much depth, the starting 5 might be able to do something, since like you said, they have a few guys who might start for Washington (Davis is basically a lock, and Kidd-Gilchrist might as well. Jones I'm not as sure about) but as soon as they had to go to the bench for any amount of time (and if it's an NBA game, 48 minutes, they definitely would) it would be a cakewalk.

The NBA is all about matchups. The Wizards would run the pick and roll all day with John Wall and Nene or Andray Blatche. Anthony Davis would struggle to defend those players with his current size and experience. Davis is going to be a great player, but who's the last PF to make an immediate impact out of college? He would get beat up pretty good. He needs to add muscle.

Kentucky has an amazing amount of potential but they need to learn the NBA game. Play this game on an NBA or college court and the Wizards have a significant advantage with the 3 pt line. 40 min game with 35 sec shot clock, I'd put the line at Wiz -35. NBA Rules? Wiz -50. So many more possessions with 24sec clock and 48 min game.

I really wish I could see this happen just once just to see it play out. I think Kentucky is only good in relation to the talent they play against.

the wizards would totally smoke them. This type of question gets asked all the time. Not every player on kentucky will play in the NBA. But every player on the wizards does.

My question wasn't who would win, it's what the point spread would be.

And for what it's worth, almost every player in Kentucky's main rotation right now will play in the NBA. Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, Jones, Lamb & Teague will go in the first round and Darius Miller will go early 2nd round.

yeah, and the game is 48 minutes or 40 minutes depending on what rules we use. Kentucky doesn't have 15 pros.

Kentucky +30. Wizards would win by a lot more than that probably.

If Barkely is setting the odds, Kentucky -10.

People need to remember only the best of the best make it to the NBA. That means every player on every roster in the NBA is outstanding. That means we should really put an end to these discussions, even when they aren't really serious, because every NBA roster is basically a college/international all-star team.

This is actually a pretty easy question that everyone is getting wrong. The actual Vegas line would be "NL" meaning the margin would be so huge they won't put a number on it. My opinion is Wizards by 50 going away.
