hitting the ball to the opposite field.Tex and Grandy don't have the sense to figure it out for themselvrs as they stubborn'y keep swinging for the fences and hit into the shifts on them with RISP. Its not that difficult for supposed ly quality hitters with any degree of bat control. I'm reminded of how well Lou and Thurman would serve the ball to right field. Jeter is the only one that seems to have any ability to do that.

You can teach it all you want - its up to the players to leave their comfort zone to actually do it though.

Mark has said he was going to start bunting, etc to not hit into the shift, he just hasn't yet.

Apparently that "comfort zone" doesn't include baseball thinking. An adjustment can mean many more base hits and RBI's which in turn=+$Any comfort zone that includes leaving runners scoring position on the base-paths is not acceptable. Billy Martin would never have accepted that as an excuse.Sure Billy is gone but his coaching style shouldn't be forgotten entirely. Sure he made mistakes with his relationship with George and even Reggie. Both, however respected Martin's instincts for the game.

Agreed - that's why Tiex has talked about doing stuff different, he just hasn't yet. I also don't believe there was shift defenses in Billy's time. Just saying I don't think Long is to blame, but the players.
