Kiyan Anthony RETURNING

I was impressed by Melos comments about what he needed to work on. He gets it. I think he needs to be coached tougher than he was before as well.
Yep, Carmelo is the anti-Lebron when it comes to soberly assessing his son's hoops abilities.

The one thing Red did properly last season was cut Kiyan's minutes in conference play. He barely deserved the minutes he got, IMHO.

I don't think starting is a lock, and I think Melo knows that.

Anthony and Sadiq needed this past year and this summer to knock AAU Ball out of their game. They need to learn to win and do the little things that help the team while sacrificing their style if needs be.

Neither was dominating against good teams, but showed flashes of real ability at times. (Just like all promising freshmen). I like Anthony's offense and he needs to improve his defense intensity. Him driving the ball with hesitation moves is awesome to watch. For Sadiq, its staying mentally in the game after playing someone who is equal to him and not being the first, second or even third option on offence. When things bread down and on the break he can get quick points, now he needs to learn how to play within a structured set on offense,

Both are very promising players. Lets see the freshman to sophmore jump!!

GO CUSE

His free throw shooting woes are entirely mental. His shooting form is fine. If he starts the year by consistently making free throws, I honestly think this could lead to a snowball effect that increases his overall confidence and productivity.

Good post. I also think based on what Gerry said in one of his media appearances, Kiyan will have more help if he gets stuck in the lane like he often did this past season.

I’m glad he is back (mostly due to his last name) but if anyone that watched him last year, besides the 3 games against 330ish NET ranked teams, thinks he is automatically going to start because he is now a sophomore, I just don’t see a world were that happens. He needs a lot of work.

i like kiyan and im glad he came to the cuse

its impossible for me to objectively evaluate him as a player...im willing to give him more slack than pretty much any other player, bc of the legacy

i just hope he can figure it out - get stronger get better on defense, learn to take better shots and improve his shooting percentages etc

one thing i think he really needs to do is get bigger legs...he has some of the thinnest legs i have ever seen in a ncabb player, if not ever...its the structure as well - just doesnt look athletic

hopefully he can bulk up

If Kiyan can get stronger, meaning put about 210 lbs of muscle on his frame, and hone his 3-pt %, he will be a much better player. He’ll be able to withstand the contact in the lane, post-up when the match-ups present themselves, and make teams pay when they try to keep him out of the lane. He has the court awareness and an understanding of the game to be an exceptional player. He is smooth with the rock, he just doesn’t have the strength yet. His game is very similar to that of Lawrence Moten’s, but Moten’s strength and hoops IQ were so much more advanced at the same age. I see great days ahead for Kiyan under GMac’s staff, whether he starts or not.

I don’t think he can put on 210lbs of muscle.

But I mostly agree.

Kiyan Anthony's return getting mentioned on Dusty and Danny
It also was mentioned on PTI on Tuesday's show with the 23rd anniversary of our natty featured in the "Happy Anniversary" segment. They added -- now Gerry McNamara is being reunited with Carmelo via his son who is returning. Hat Tip to BillSU for posting about this in his Happy Anniversary Thread on Tuesday.

I posted this in the Mike Tirico as commencement speaker thread after someone posted about Melo's speech last year. Worth posting here also for anyone who hasn't seen it (and those who have but want to see it again). Something for Kiyan to aspire to.

I misspoke, but you got my point. He needs to put on more muscle and be about 200-210 lbs to really maximize his ability to finish in the paint. I forget where is current weight is, but i think 180-ish, so gain 20 lbs of muscle.

I dream of Kiyan being a driver before he's a shooter because I think he is such a gifted finished around the rim. Like Pete said though, if he's going to do that, he better put on some weight because he got pushed around on O and D this year.

I guess it's good to have the son of an alltime legend stick around, but he has to make major strides to even be considered as a rotation player if we're expecting to improve enough to make the tournament. A lot of people above are worried about his strength, but that can be improved. I'm more worried about his obvious lack of quickness and how slow he is... these attributes are a lot harder to improve on than bulking up.
