Kiyan

I was most impressed with his overall game. Very sound fundamentally. He almost made a great defensive play late in the game trying to rotate in the post to break up a dump down pass helping out Kyle. You could see Red was very happy. Not an easy play but a terrific read by Kiyan. It’s a play veterans don’t always make and Anthony was right there.

I agree about his defense. I was critical of it during the exhibition games but he displayed much more effort and intensity against Binghamton. Great to see.

I have to say, even though it is only Binghamton, this is the best we have looked in several years. Lots of athleticism, rebounding, interchangeable depth. I’d like to see us cut back on some of the ill advised 3 pointers and focus better on free throw shooting. That’s about my only criticisms so far.

Edit: perhaps my biggest praise is the level of intensity we displayed until the buzzer sounded. No letdown and I loved it.

One quibble. When he’s defending the inbound pass under the basket he may want to raise his arms and move a tad. Loved the rest of his game

I feel like Kiyan has been rapidly improving over the last few years. I watched him before arriving at SU and he was not nearly as polished offensively. His midrange game is SO much better than I assumed.

He is crafty, sort of like Judah Mintz was, but different. Judah was athletic, jerky, and had an unorthodox tempo that was hard for defenders to anticipate. Kiyan is just really smooth and looks to be toying with defenders.

Kiyan is going to bring this program national notoriety and publicity again, which we are already starting to see. I don’t think it’s a coincidence our game against Drexel is on Peacock. At some point next season NBC may try to get some of our games. Also, pretty ironic and cool that, in his debut, Kiyan scored the number of points that equaled his dad’s jersey number here.

Disney / ACC own the TV rights for all our home and conference games.

We would have to be playing a Big Ten team on the road, or in a Preseason Tournament that NBC has the rights to.

Good points, but I would disagree a little bit on the three-pointers. Most of our three-pointers were very good looks. The kind Buddy or Gerard would make with ease. It was disappointing that Kingz and Betsey were missing those easy ones. But those guys definitely need to shoot threes when open like they were. (Freeman too)
