Kiyan

You think the other players are going to resent him?
Kiyan was an influencer before Syracuse, so I'm sure all the players knew the deal coming in of playing with someone who is very high profile beyond the basketball court. It also helps we are in a different era, all of the players seem to be well taken care of financially. Carmelo and Kiyan also know the deal that beyond the desire of wanting the best for the success of Syracuse, it's good for business to be apart of playing a fun brand of team basketball. You kind of got a sneak peak in the Peacock segment that Carmelo was very excited with the brand of basketball the team was playing on Monday night. Success for the basketball program with Kiyan will only bring more exposure to the program and help with the increasing the marketability of his teammates, as well as himself.

Calling it now. Kiyan goes pro after this sophomore season. He steps in and starts next year at SG. Averages 18+ ppg next year and is a first rounder. Donnie a first rounder this year. Kiyan next year. And Cuse starts putting players back into the NBA
That’s already been said by Melo.

Kiyan needs to play a lot of minutes this year, probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 minutes a game. His upside is unbelievable and he can do things that none of our other guards can do. And he will continue to get better throughout the season.

I like your enthusiasm, but 30 minutes all season basically makes him a starter.
JJ is hurt for a while, so Kiyan will get extra minutes for at least the next couple weeks.

There is only 80 minutes in the backcourt. Kiyan is not really a SF, not defensively.
George has to play a lot - 30 minutes. Sure, Kiyan can take a few of those remaining 10 minutes at PG, but so will Fennell and maybe JJ and maybe Zephir.

At the 2G, we have JJ, Kingz and Kiyan, so, 30 minutes of those 40 are spoken for
Kingz can play a little SF, but looks a lot more like a guard, to me.

Betsey is bigger than Kiyan at SF, and you're going to have Donnie rotating into that spot, too.

If Kiyan gets 20 minutes per game once everybody is back healthy, that sounds pretty good to me. Don't ask too much of the young man. Let him blossom next year.

Dion Waiters only played 16 minutes a game as a freshman, and 24 minutes a game as a sophomore before he went pro.

Agree. And I also agree with 23 on the Kiyan upside.

Get him as much as run as possible these 4 cupcakes games. He’s gonna get his chance against top competition soon enough same with all these guys. We’ll quickly see who’s ready for more and who needs a little less run.

Kingz has not been the most exciting so far but there’s more coming with him. Difference between kingz a RS SR and a freshman is gonna show up more against the top 25 teams coming up.

I agree about his defense. I was critical of it during the exhibition games but he displayed much more effort and intensity against Binghamton. Great to see.

I have to say, even though it is only Binghamton, this is the best we have looked in several years. Lots of athleticism, rebounding, interchangeable depth. I’d like to see us cut back on some of the ill advised 3 pointers and focus better on free throw shooting. That’s about my only criticisms so far.

Edit: perhaps my biggest praise is the level of intensity we displayed until the buzzer sounded. No letdown and I loved it.
I have to double down on my own post. I am still impressed that they did not let down their intensity against Delaware State. I know it’s only Delaware State. But it’s a great sign. I can’t remember a team in a LONG time that refused to play sloppy in blow outs. And that obviously likes each other as much as this team. How long HAS it been?

The 3 in a row of Houston, Kansas and Tennessee (all top 20 teams) will be the true test of our team and the individual players. The rotations and roles should come into focus after those tough games and will prepare us for tournament play.

I watched recent Houston and KU games. I don’t think we’re as far away from those teams as some may have previously thought.

Also, we’ll have a 3rd game in Vegas after KU against another P5 team. I really hope we find a way to win 2 games in Vegas.
