Going into the season I had realistic but positive expectations for Kiyan. He has been a hard worker throughout his career and constantly improved.
Now I’m not sure how good he can be. On one hand I recognize he is a freshman who can continue to work, improve and grow. But he has shown very little this season. His shot has been beyond disappointing as is his propensity to miss his first foul shot. He doesn’t appear particularly interestied in playing defense and embracing the grind. He doesn’t go for 50/50 balls. His athleticism appears limited and he has trouble getting by ACC caliber players or staying in front of them on d. The ball stops with him and his assist numbers are awful as is his patience and often his shot selection. His constantly untucked shirt is unimportant but still annoying.
I admired his progression pre college because he continually worked and improved. Obviously this is a delicate situation. Perhaps some tough love and increased accountability from his next coach would help. I would love for this kid to succeed here obviously. I just wonder if he can.
