KYLE #1

1. McNabb
2. MacPherson
3. McCord
4. McGraves
5. McDungey
Seriously. Are there any Mc QB’s in the portal or in the 2025 recruiting class? If so, we should add them to the 2025 roster immediately.

He will always for me be the number one Quarterback for Syracuse University maybe with Donovan still residing somewhere down in the gray matter of my mind.

How he could come here after the Fran Brown visit, make up his mind that he was doing the right thing, arrive at a new program knowing what Fran had told him on their visit. Alone in his thoughts and wondering if what he had decided was true.

A new coach, new teammates, new everything. It’s what makes me like him as a man - taking on such a challenge. And, what he imagined, we now know, made his dreams and ours come true. Through it all he remained so calm, the leader standing behind the team instructing them what to do.

I wonder if members of this board feel the same way I do. I have felt so relaxed after watching the team win - THE GAME - so proud of Kyle and Fran and the team. It’s like the “you can do anything you put your mind to”, a saying that’s been around forever that I think always has been Fran’s mantra and now I believe Kyles and the programs.

I really feel that our football fortunes have taken off and that Fran is just getting started on his mission to revive SU Football into its former winning ways because of him and that he knows in his heart he can do it. Make SU a consistent winner. I sincerely feel that Fran is going to be here for some time after what he accomplished in his first year as a head coach and elite recruiter.

And Kyle is #1, the Quarterback who believes he can. I hope he gets drafted and does well in the NFL. No one deserves it more.
I can never forget McNabb. I put Donavan and KyIe on the same pedestaI. For someone, who ran the freeze option to perfection, for one gIorius seanson, Don McPherson gets there too.

I have to give a shout-out to Dave Sarette, the only SU quarterback (so far) to win a national championship.

Respect to everyone’s opinion, but if we are talking best Orange QB ever, it’s McNabb hands down. I don’t see how that’s even a debate.

This year was amazing watching McCord. ‘87 was my first game at the Dome versus Colgate and I was instantly hooked. Loved watching McPherson and can still remember being in shock when they announced Tim Brown’s name. Two memorable seasons.

But McNabb’s Cuse career was the best. Then #2 overall pick and an Eagles legend on top of it.

McCord is easily the best quarterback to play here. Because he didn’t play for 4 years doesn’t make him any less of a player . He’s the best passer I have ever seen at the collegiate level. I can’t imagine him not have great success in the NFL.
McNabb went top 3 in the NFL Draft and was a perineal pro bowler. His skill set in today’s RPO based offenses would be down right scary.

Kyle has been very good, but if you should be warning more football if he is the best passer you have seen at this level.

McCabb leadership story. Saw him at the County Clerk’s office the summer before his senior year. He was with another guy. When people noticed him, some asked for autographs. He told them, (as best I can recall) “this is Jeff Lowe. He’s going to have a great year. You need to get his autograph, too.”

Is McCabb the love child of McNabb and McCord, and if so, how long till he’s in college?

The best passer you have ever seen in college level?! I think the world of the kid but that’s crazy. In recent history I can think of a dozen better passers…… much longer ago though TY Detmer was the best passer I think I ever saw play.

Who was better ??? Give my some names

Best passer ever at the collegiate level (your words)? I mean come on. Did you watch Caleb Williams last year? Maybe we’ve been so QB starved the last 25 years we’ve forgotten what a good one looks like.

I love Kyle. He’s been awesome in his one year here. But Kyle McCord wouldn’t be on anyone’s top 50 QB list of all time outside of Syracuse. If he were in the draft this year I doubt he goes before the fifth round.

He’s somewhat similar to a Sam Hartman type for me. Really, really good college player. Great mind for the game. Lacks elite arm talent, sometimes struggles with accuracy, and can make some really odd throwing decisions under duress.

McCord obviously had a great season, but I think the reason some are saying he is the best ever is because it is so fresh in their mind. Ask again in 10-20 years and see if they answer differently. But absolutely McNabb was the best I've ever seen at Cuse.

Totally agree.

While, to me, Kyle is the best pure passer we have ever had, Don McPherson is the best overall QB we have ever had.

Also for me, Don is my second favorite alltime SU player behind Ernie.
Why do you rank Donnie McPherson over McNabb? What did he do better ? I’m just curious the answer is all

Struggles with accuracy ????? Seriously are you insane ? Are you watching the same the player ?? He’s extremely accurate and I’m going to double down and say is without question the best passer I’ve ever seen in college. Saying he struggles with accuracy is like saying Steph Curry is a poor shooter and you can’t be taken seriously.

I love McCord but there's no way I can personally put him ahead of Marvin Graves who led us to two 10-2 seasons and a #6 and #11 finish nationally. That is recency bias on steroids.

5 interceptions in one game would seem to defeat your argument. There are a plethora of QBs with completion percentages well above Kyle’s. He was great for SU, and in more ways than completion %.
Here is a list of most accurate seasons ever. Bo Nix was over 77% last year.
Then there are the old school guys, like Marino, Kosar, Montana, etc.

Marvin also played on much better teams. Both Donnie Macs are 1,2 after that, it does get dicey. Todd Philcox let us to a 10 win season as well. As did Eric Dungey.

Not that anyone asked, here's my list:
1. McNabb
2. MacPherson
3. McCord
4. Graves
5. Dungey
I think this is right except I’d have to swap Kyle and Marvin.

That said, I’d be open to Kyle moving up next season.

I inferred from the original post that the question is not Who is the best SU QB ever, but rather Who is your favorite.

Mine:
1) McPherson
2) McNabb
3) Dungey
4) McCord
5) Graves
6) Shrader
7) Hurley

Addendum: The play by Dungey to throw an interception, track the player down, and rip the ball out of his hands to get it back, was the singular most memorable play by a QB ever.

Nope one game is not a measure of a season so that point is actually ridiculous. He had 7 totall in the other 11 and only one in the past 5. He had like 6 last year with OSU. The guy plays the game with surgical precision, he reads the defense very quickly and gets the ball out fast, and it’s almost always right on the numbers. The guy is an amazing QB easily the best we have had here and his numbers prove it.

in college?????
Ty Detmer
Philip Rivers
Case Keenum
Johnny Manzel
Joe Burrow
Marcus Marriota
Mason Rudolph to name a few
You would say they were better ?? He throws in to extremely tight windows. Not sure I’ve seen another college player do it better lBurrow would be the closet in that list.
