Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

One point of note...there are 32 NFL teams. Please please please let him end up at any the 31 not named the Jets. I hate the Jets i'll be his biggest fan no matter where he goes as long as its not the Jets.

And they will ruin him too
Fair

Listening to Palmer talk is how we all feel.

“Where’s the disconnect?” Guy has won 20 something and 4, elite “spin it” metrics, top tier FB IQ according to the tests. Confident and calm under pressure. Elite recruit, had success and left, the. Elevated a program.

He was calmly saying “gonna start for a long time.” I really hope he gets a chance to sit for a year behind someone with an aging vet and then gets to take over. Don’t draft him as the savior, but let him sit and learn the speed and go from there. He’s got everything you need in a QB save for elite physical athleticism/speed, and the league hasn’t had spent most of its history NOT needing that from its QBs.

Saving plays was always a secondary trait or QB. Saved for big moments
Now its a firstondary trait and QBs are drafted for that trait above being a QB way to often.

Super hero day at my sons school here in Michigan and of course he went with Kyle as his super hero

Like I said he will start and be rookie of the year this coming season. The kid is a complete freak a quarterback dream come true.
I don't think I have ever heard Jordan Palmer more effusive about a quarterback.
Edit: Says teams don't see him the way the media does.

I do think a lot of it has to do with it being Syracuse. If the helmet he was wearing was Arizona or Oregon State I think he would be seen (nationally) more favorably if he had an identical season. I also think if we finished in the top 15 in final polls for being 10-3 with wins over as many bowl teams as anyone in the country, that would also make a difference.

Most people in media didn’t watch us last year outside highlights against Miami. When people actually watch McCords tape, and let him run the white board, QB coaches are gonna love that dude and want to work with him. As to how that translates into how high he goes, that I have no idea. But I would be very surprised if that’s not before the end of day 2.

He called him a multi year starter that’s a pretty big compliment. I would say as big a compliment as you could expect going into the NFL draft.
McCord’s draft stock will steadily rise, but he will likely pay for the sins of a “fine-to-good” junior season at OSU, an untimely INT at Michigan, for 5 INT at Pitt, and for wearing a Syracuse helmet as a senior (in the ACC).

That’s the default NFL position entering the evaluation process, especially for NFL coaching staffs, which are different than scouting staffs.

The good news is that none of that matters once he steps on the grass during a team’s off-season program. He will (largely) make his own breaks.

I don’t agree with any of that. He had an amazing season last year. Had one bad game clearly an anomaly the rest of what you said is completely meaningless. He is the player that he is and he’s a fantastic player. End of discussion.

If scouts only cared where you played then so many kids from secondary schools would not be drafted at all

I don't think the Pitt game matters at all to scouts unless it happened over and over which it didn't

I think it’s going to be fascinating watching what happens with McCord the remainder of draft season, and then into his first contract.

Either he’s (seemingly) about to be a steal everyone here is going to claim “how could the world not see it coming” or he’s going to be a guy that is just a guy in the league and kicks around as a backup for 5-10 years and most everyone outside of here forgets he exists.

Either way, lots to be learned from Kyle’s situation

I said it a while back a few months ago after the season... a few years ago I went back and watched every single Tom Brady college game I could find. what stood out was accuracy under pressure... ability to stay calm and lead his team back from behind.. and his outstanding accuracy.. he had an uncanny ability to slide any direction in the pocket and maintain focus and accuracy and put the ball into very small windows. Kyle is the only player in recent memory that I have had the same feelings.. and I watch a ton of CFB. Its refreshing to hear a highly regarded analyst basically calling him a top 3 QB coming out this year. I will look back in a few years and see how accurate my eval was. I doubt he will be a 7 times Super Bowl winner.. but i am predicting a top 10 NFL QB designation as long as he goes to an organization that has its %$ together

I am not a big NFL guy. I watch periodically because of people I know who live and die with it. And I’m soured on CFB’s current state - though I am happy SU is having success with HCFB.

But the McCord story is fascinating, and is probably the most interesting topic in the off-season for me. I’d just like to see the kid be successful. It’s a good story. I really hope he knocks it out of the park.

I can see that. Brady as a comparison is what has always come to mind for me as well. All that you mentioned but also uber competitive and football is all he has every seemed to focus on, even since he was little. He didn't watch any shows, just football film. Your going to get everything he can give, no doubt.

There really isn't much negative with him. Because he lacks the ability to make explosive plays with his legs, that is a bit of a downgrade in todays game as far as his ceiling maybe. But to me his floor is really damn high. I have no doubt he sticks around in the league for a good chunk of time. I could see him develop into a top 10 QB in the league.
