Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

I don't think I have ever heard Jordan Palmer more effusive about a quarterback.
Edit: Says teams don't see him the way the media does.
I love McCord but just some context here.

Palmer is McCord’s trainer.
Palmer has done this in the past about guys he’s trained most notably Deshawn Watson

If scouts only cared where you played then so many kids from secondary schools would not be drafted at all

I don't think the Pitt game matters at all to scouts unless it happened over and over which it didn't

I was tracking where McCord was in draft projections through the year. Prior to the Pitt game he was around #100 in a bunch. After the Pitt game he dropped off several projections. He started climbing back in a couple games later, made a big jump after Miami and has continued to gain momentum.

I suspect the Pitt game did scare teams (or at least folks who do draft projections) off initially, but teams have started to view his career holistically now. Additionally that game was just a weird anomaly - once guys really getting into breaking down individual players, when they look at that game it looks like a blue moon event where flukey unrepeatable stuff happened. Several tipped balls that ended up as INTs (with two being pick sixes) instead of incompletions.

I think the takeaway is folks who run the draft projections sites react way too much week to week based on individual games. That’s led a lot of people to think the Pitt game is some giant stain on McCord’s resume.

Not sure I hears anything there that’s not factual. He really didn’t say all that much other than what Watson had already accomplished

Draft projections are from writers that are trying to get readers, they are not from scouts or NFL teams.

Edit: I think that is basically what you are saying. Thought you were 94.

He said "He’s (Watson) going to build a championship there at some point.”.

That's pretty wrong.

Not really the point though. I'm just saying Palmer has history of propping up the guys he works with. I don't take much from what he's saying. I still think McCord could be a very good NFL QB.

That was more a product of his extracurriculars, don't you think?

Question... is there an inverse relationship between McCord's talent and Fran's coaching ability? When people talk about McCord as a top NFL QB... that makes me think we should not expect 10 win seasons around here very often, Fran or no Fran. On the other hand, if McCord fizzles, does that not make Fran all the better of a coach in being able to utilize him to such a point that he was considered a generational talent by SU Fans? We will know a lot more about our head coach this year.

This is fair regarding McCord, but Watson was a top 5 QB before he got caught spreading his legs for massage therapists so who knows how his career ends up if that never happens.

The two points are not inverse of each other. There are many factors to each side. Ex.: HCFB has improved recruiting and, if he is as good as we believe, he spots and develops talent very well*, he will keep improving the entire team until he attains his limits. Likewise, McCord will have NFL coaching and Talent surrounding him, he may elevate his game further. Sure, either or both can fizzle, but neither needs to do so to benefit the other.

* See Jackson Meeks, a bench talent at UGA, steps up and makes himself an NFL prospect in one season. Again, there is much more to the story than my overs simplification, but the general point stands that HCFB spots and develops talent.

Not really. They shouldn't be affecting his play in Cleveland. You could argue his injury more that the other stuff
Wasn't that quote in relation to him being drafted by Houston, or am I incorrect?

Watson always had the tools to be a very good NFL QB. His "extracurriculars" have had a damaging effect on his career and standard of play. Indeed if I'm not mistaken, he still has a couple cases pending, which can be nothing other than a huge distraction.

My mistake.
All good. Everyone has valid points here on Watson...I'm just saying I don't take Palmer's word anymore than he's pumping up his clients.

McCord is still the man, he can still be a great QB, he can still be a Round 1 pick, I'd just use another source
