Landers Nolley in the portal

He is a solid rebounder even if his numbers dipped at Memphis ( less minutes). Penny played 10 guys. Just look at his freshman year at VT. He had a number of double digit nights on the boards.

Average as a defender though.
He's also a grad transfer (proven production) who can create his own shot. Although I think he was one of the players who was mad at Emoni Bates when it was being reported about the chemistry issues in the Memphis locker room.

Now that you mention it - I am thinking back as to whether there were issues with him at VT too hence why he left?

might have been - he was a Buzz guy who stuck around for Young, so might have been more a not buying into Young's system/methods - but still a possible red flag

Maybe he could benefit from the zone. I remember seeing him as a freshman at VT, and thinking he was a stud. Surprised he has regressed last two years at Memphis.

If I remember correctly, he was academically ineligible his first year with Buzz and then could play his second year with Mike Young. Probably didn’t have enough demand to transfer once Buzz left.

He doesn’t seem to very committed to a school. He’s just hopping around. Maybe not the team kind of guy.
Same number of schools as Andrew White and John Gillon.

He definitely was highlighted as one of their primary weapons that year when we played them. They had lost the big kid that was really good I remember and didn't have Aluma yet.

I think this is an under appreciated aspect of the transfer portal. With one year rentals you have to make sure they buy into the new system and will fit in. Here, you have to make sure the target will be a good teammate when they are given no starting guarantees. I am sure Jimmy and staff will emphasize the opportunity for minutes are there but not set in stone. Sometimes the most talented player is not the best fit. Not saying that is the case with Nolley but will need to be fully vetted during the process

Cuse!

He averaged 2.8 assists/game last season, which is really good for a forward.

When he was a frosh at VT, they deployed him on the high post, and he had some really good games from there. Could make the mid range shoot, drive to the hoop or make a pass defending on what the defense gave him.

Sounds like he might have become more perimeter oriented later. Might be his best bet for the NBA but not for his skill set. I think he would be good in that kind of a role. But he would need to buy in and be willing to focus more on the boards.
