1. This season was *always* a throwaway, exhibition season. Just get better, w/l doesn’t matter as much as growth

2. It’s time for Tommy to just sling it. Don’t be too careful. Have fun. Breathe.

3.Two new coordinators, bunch of young players. Get them experience.

4. As fans, we gotta just focus on the positive. Life’s too short. We weren’t winning the conference this year. Our recruiting is looking up.

Wasnt last year, Tommys first starting, the throwaway year though?

Every team can find a reason to say this every season. I respect your POV but I've been making excuses for this team for too long.

Just as this is an "exhibition" season it also can be viewed as a crap shoot in which anything can happen and chances can be taken.

Take them.

I'm with you on this except the perspective that its a throw away season. Tommy needs to play looser and sling the ball. All the players should embrace the opportunity and play to win. The idea of an exhibition is about running through the motions. You don't get excited to play, you don't care if you win. That is the wrong perspective for growing.

Meh. Tommy already has the wolves out for him even when hes leading the team in rushing and didn't throw one ball into traffic that could have been picked.

That was a good team we played and somehow only had 3 points at half. The collapse was inevitable. If the D plays well against Kenny Pickett things might get on track next week.

I do wonder which games will be this years BC/Maryland where they don't show up and it gets ugly in 1Q though. Don't think it will be this Sat.

There's a difference between wolves out and just no longer being in the mood to make excuses. I actually have no opinion of Tommy's performance. I still have yet to see what he would do with a truly open playbook. He had a meh game which is probably a step up from the guys calling the plays.

There is no such thing as a "throw away" season. Next year is not guaranteed for everyone.

Agree. I have trouble with saying that. I will take into account this season's very unique circumstances when evaluating it, but now that we are playing, I expect to be able to compete with schools in our conference.

Wolves aren’t out for Tommy as much as they are for wanting to see better progress on Offense.

how many seasons do we have to see a stagnate offense before we can start questioning things?

we all should be worried after Saturday.

our defense is going to be special...our offense needs to step it up.

It’s also a tough pill to swallow to see all of the players out here posting pictures on their socials like they stomped UNC...

maybe that’s an overreaction but it doesn’t rub me right.

Lots of teams around the country have coaching TO. It’s more rare they don’t any given season. Sure, we have new coordinators but the D looked good overall. The offense was terrible yet that’s our HC specialty. The fall off shouldn’t be that significant on offense, our HC is an offensive wizard everyone is trying to hire.

Not throwing a pick because you hold the ball to long and take a sac or not recognize open receivers and either try to run or throw the ball away should not be viewed as a positive.

Last year wasn't a throwaway. There were expectations. They began the season in the Top 25. This season isn't a throwaway either. The players don't view it that nor do the coaches. Fans shouldn't feel this way.

Throwaway in that it’s P3 now maybe P4, eligibility doesn’t matter, we got screwed by the ACC schedule makers, Dino is safe no matter what...

to be clear, I’m not saying they shouldn’t try to win. I’m saying the primary goal should be to get better, not win x amount of asterisk games during a pandemic

The primary goal needs to be to win. We don’t need the perception of being a perennial looser. Plus we need to win to keep our recruiting up.

The primary goal should ALWAYS be to win. Improvement is a means to more wins. You practice to improve; you play to win.

I can give more grace this year but I can't call it a throwaway. First, recruits are watching. If we look crappier than other teams, that hurts. Kids won't wanna hear that it's covid. Everyone that is playing is playing with the same circumstances. Second, the new OC thing is exaggerated. The system is the same. It doesn't make sense that the defense looked more functional with a brand new system than the offense did with the same system and a bunch of experienced pieces.

You play to win the game - one at a time.

Go Orange!

no recruiting is not very good, tommy may be a good qb somewhere else where he has protection. to just sling it is not appropriate. there needs to be a plan of some sort. the majority of the time he cannot see the field(open receivers) . the offensive game plan was horrible/ total lack of creativity, and ignoring the te completely.
sterlin is not a "new coordinator", he is new to syracuse.
i give babers a pass for this year. and two more years to recruit and win, imho. he needs to get on sterlin on game planning. i look for improvement ---baber gut check time.

I'll repost this from another thread, in shortened form. This year:

- Players should always play to win. You get hurt, games too hard to do otherwise
- Fans should place the emphasis on getting better and finding improvements. What the hell is a w/l record in this environment? You think this is a fair deal - during a pandemic, crazy schedule, etc? If fans treat this year like all the others, they are going to work themselves up into a frothy mess for no reason. It's not worth it. We're not in contention this season (whatever that means anyways). Use this year to get better for next season.
- Coaches should do a bit of column a and a bit of column b

(I suspect that most rational fans are in agreement with the above, IMO)

We're coming off a season where we won 2 ACC games. Everyone expects us to be bad.

Wins are one metric to show improvement. When I say throw away - I mean in terms of w/l. This season could be pivotal in recruiting and in really setting the table for next year.

I get no one likes to think this way. Just looking out for everyones mental health lol.

(I agree on the OC. But Sterling will have a better idea of what he's working with now. The changes he implements might be different than Lynch. We'll see.)

kids these days are like that...don't buy into it too much

The "most improvement comes between games one and two" is a meathead coaching myth.
