Because this staff is continuing the trend of struggling to land quality point guards that has dated back for at least a decade?

I think shooting is too far down their list of must haves
Autry comes from a different time where 4 attempts a game at 33% is good
Carlos shot 316 from 3 at hofstra. No chance they thought he'd be good at shooting
A few years ago, we had Joe G. Buddy, Cole Swider and had a losing season. We also had a pretty good center in Edwards.

Well what’s the common denominator between all the seasons.
I would like to have basketball players. Guys that can shoot. Dribble, rebound, defend. It seems we got away from that a long time ago. The guys in next years class are reputed to be good shooters. With the exception of White.

You don't recruit a PG primarily for his shooting. On this year's roster, that was supposed to be handled by Bell and Starling.
If it is Red, he gets the blame for this portal class but Jb owns the rest.

What about assistants and coaching up talent. I have no idea really, but we have been consistently lousy so there has to be something that stands out.

Moore was supposed to be a top of the line shooter.
Red won 20 games last season with a team of misfits. How bad was it? Copeland isn't starting at McNeese st. Neither is Taylor. There are questions for sure about whether Red can coach at this level. Or ever will be able to. But he isn't the reason that the program hit the skids. That is Boeheim
I'm not defending Red. Please. Just that I know sometimes things take time to judge. Anyone can see that this product sucks. The coaching as it is , is lacking. He wasn't my choice. But he is here now and it appears that the next class is pretty good. The current class is good. If we can hold on to Moore and Freeman. And I'm not even talking about Freeman going pro.

That team of misfits had a fringe NBA guard who scored 200 points from the line and an all-conference defender in the paint who didn't miss many putbacks. They somehow won 20 games despite having a SRS that was 4th from last in conference. They had a final KenPom of 80. Most other P5 teams with those kinds of underlying metrics are +/- .500.
This season Red has his guys and they're worse.

Needing to keep Autry to keep Moore and freeman is about as far down my list as shooting ability is on Autry's

Everyone says so but with the portal, I'm not buying it. If Autry were good we'd be good. You dont have to wait, hell you can't wait
And how much money do we have for the portal? To get quality kids? Or don't you know that?

In 2024 if your point guard can't shoot 35% at least from deep it's a huge liability.
The team sucked. He won more games than JB did in his last 5. And I don't want to defend the guy but the board is actually forcing me to do something I don't want to do. Judah is not an NBA player. He isn't a good shooter and he is a horrible defender. Brown had severe trouble guarding good big men. And he like the rest, couldn't score. I am not happy with Red's coaching. There doesn't seem to be a plan. I don't think Red has his guys this year. Because of our lack of money, we hit the bargain basement in the portal. And that shows. He is going to get another year. Nothing you or I can do about that. And next year will certainly be more of his team. Hopefully it will be a bit better. If it isn't, he will probably be gone.
I think he is pretty good for a freshman. Many of our best shooters weren't great when they were freshman.

I agree. Moore is actually exceeding my expectations. I thought he would be good, but I think he is really good. His shot will fall. He'll figure out how to get open.
His defense is awful at this point. He keeps taking his eyes off of his man. And when he does that, it's too late when his guy gets the ball.
