Latest bowl update from Jerry Palm...

Agree, I'd be pretty shocked if Maryland isn't playing in that game. The only reason I could think otherwise is if Annapolis thinks they can get more hotel stays, more restaurant and bar activity by picking someone else. The town loves its tourism. The Maryland fans will day trip it.

Chip...have you winterized your garage yet? or should we just set up a heated canopy in your front yard?

That's true too.

that loss by Clemson really could have messed things up

Only if we're concerned about an ACC bowl.

Which is another thing that's in our favor to play in Annapolis. Could have walked 3 blocks to an SU bowl game. Karma. Now I'm no better than a day tripping Terp fan. Except that I have a personality.

Clemson should still be in the top 14...wouldn't hurt me to see UCF move over NIU in the BCS ratings. NIU is a nice story but seriously they would lose by 17 pts to the worst BCS team other than UCF

Is there a scenario where, despite being bowl eligible, we would not be invited to a bowl somewhere?:

i think it is extremely unlikely. you have to remember most of the bowls you here being mentioned about picking an ACC school up as an at large are the bowls in which the ACC will have bowl tie in with next season. They will look out for us with that being the case

That would be ugly...for UB and also means Cuse is in a really crappy bowl game.
I think it'd garner more attention and a better game than North Texas etc.

Marquis Spruill vs. Khalil Mack etc.

Even if invited, if one does not accept promptly, that invitation could be rescinded.
It happened just last year to a team that finished better than 6-6.

Right now, there are 77 bowl eligible teams and 70 bowl slots, according to Palm. Rutgers is the only other team that could become bowl eligible next week and realistically be in the running for a bowl slot. SMU is going down to UCF and no one cares if South Alabama becomes bowl eligible.

There are a bunch of leagues that have more bowl eligible teams than slots. Pac12 has 9 and 7 slots. ACC has 11 and 8 slots. If Clemson and FSU make it to the BCS, then it will be 9 and 7. So we need two at-larges for us all to go bowling. The SEC bowls will have an extra slot. The Big XII and B1G will have an extra slot. Those bowls will likely want to fill them will AQ conference teams. The AAC has 6 slots but only four teams. Not sure what bowl organizers there would do.

There are a bunch of lower level conferences with too many bowl eligibles. We should get the call over FAU (6-6), CMU (6-6), SJSU (6-6), Texas State (6-6), Troy (6-6), UL-Monroe (6-6), and Tulane (7-5). That brings us down to 70 teams. Only Rutgers could complicate things.

not inconceivable that one of those lower teams buys their way in with ticket sales. rutgers still being up in the air messes up things.

That's not encouraging. Can we say that since we're bowl-eligible and we get shut out, we'll just hold the extra 15 practices anyway? :D
