Pretty much sums up how fast the PSU program is dropping.

he needs to grow up and get a grip. was he this outraged when the charges against sandusky were announced? didn't think so...wonder why.

The comments by the former Penn State players like Brandon Short and Arrington are nothing short of silly.
Agreed. Obviously, he cares only about football, not the affected kids and the university as a whole. Actually, this is a bit surprising to me. I was at the Giants kickoff luncheon when he was with the Giants. Made a very heartwarming and emotional speech about Bob Sheppard (legendary Giants Stadium and Yankee Stadium announcer). Very good, emotional speech. Many eyes were not dry. He gave me the impression of someone who was well thought out. Apparently, I was wrong.

Actually he was pretty harsh when it all came out. That's why these comments today surprised me. Guess he just likes hearing himself talk, which is no surprise, but I think his true colors came out a bit today. Anyone who wanted Bradley to get that job THAT badly just doesn't get how serious this was. Thankfully (I think) those in charge now at Penn State seem to.

I live in northern va and Lavar is an attention whore (sorry for the vocab) he once talked so much crap about Portis on the John Thomas show (see what I am exposed to) Clinton Portis tried to call him on a fist fight on air basically.

Marrone's thoughts on the O'Brien hire (per Joe Schad's tweets) :

"He's smart, he's high energy, he's a very good recruiter. Penn State could not have made a better choice."
"He is about integrity, excellent teamwork and strong morals."
"He understands the challenges; what's in front of him. You will be impressed. He's a guy you gravitate to in a room."
"We're playing them in two years. This is not PR stuff. This is the truth."

So I guess the NYC game is still on?

harsh is one thing. this takes it to a new level. i think he has his priorities mixed up.

He, along with many of the Letterman's Club, wanted to keep the job "in the family". Sickening, these guys sounds like creepshows themselves, especially after what has transpired over the last decade or so.

Unfortunately, it's the type of 'family' where cousins marry, or at least act like they did.

I agree Arrington's priorities are screwed up, but for different reasons. I don't think it would have been the end of the world if they'd hired Bradley - obviously the search for an outsider wasn't going well, they weren't going to hire a pee-wee coach...so Bradley might have ended up the only viable option for football reasons and left PSU dealing with the PR issues of hiring him. But they found an outsider with a credible background that was willing to have his career die in the middle of nowhere in central PA so good for them, I guess.

The problem I have with the Arrington types is that when the program is in duress is not the time to be making public comments of dissent. Whether PSU people agreed with the hire before it was made or not, now is the time to stand behind the hire and present a unified front. Otherwise you're not really a PSU guy, and are showing by your lack of character that is truth you never really were. The going got tough...and he's now a turncoat.

So there's no "new level" here, that's just witch hunt mentality nonsense. He's certainly entitled to feel Bradley should have been hired. But Arrington and the other alums like him do need to re-evaluate their priorities because this doesn't reflect well on him personally for reasons vastly different than the "supports sex abuse and abusers" theme some on here are pushing.

What the State Penn decision really tells us is that the one guy they knew they couldn't lose was Johnson. If they were gonna clean house, he'd have to go. It's not as if he stood above all others when it came to what is just and good about college football. It's disingenuous to suggest that Penn State is all about integrity/academics uber alles and to keep ONLY their super-recruiter from amongst the tarnished wreckage of that program.

It is not, however, surprising.

That's your opinion, not shared by everyone. It's not witch hunt either.

Yes, it is. just because you're one of the witch hunters doesn't make it untrue.

Excuse me?

Just because it is your opinion, doesn't make it true either and doesn't make people witch hunters. Aren't their Prez, AD, finance guy, security guy, HOF HC, all but 1 staff member, etc gone? Not much of a witch hunt by outsiders. Arrington is showing a lot more outrage for not getting his coach than he did about the whole sordid affair. That's not a witch hunt no matter how many people you want to call witch hunters.

Johnson is by all accounts one of the greatest men of integrity in college football. I know hes part of a despicable staff but everything Ive ever heard about Johnson is high, high praise.

I've heard he's a great, great recruiter.

As to ' by all accounts one of the greatest men of integrity in college football', links please. You can start with just one.
