LB Geoff Cantin-Arku: Drafted by CFL Montreal Alouettes

This sucks.

He can't wait for what 11 days and announce the day after Pitt game?

We project to bring back everyone in front of him someone said it earlier but I think he just wants to be in the portal before it gets too crowded. Syracuse players who transfer aren't finding the best spots. Most are having to drop down a level. Taj had to go to a team that never throws to get on SEC team. If his minds made up its made up.

Not a bad player maybe he bucks the trend and actually transfers up?

Would you really eat ice cream if it came out that hole?

The backers in front of him are better. The backers behind him are better. Hello Linton and Lowery. Writing was on the wall for next year. Frees up playing time for someone who wants to be here. He's a good player but not irreplaceable...how ya doin, keep it movin.

How do academic transfer credits fit into all of this? Unless someone expects to have a shot at the NFL, which almost all of these transfers do not, I think they’re crazy to waste their credits.
Pretty sure they keep their scholarship until the end of the semester and the school/team usually likes them to stay in school so it helps the team GPA and the other academic scores that matter.

Tommy for example I would assume graduated already so it wouldn't matter much to him if he stayed, at the completion of this semester that would be his 5th year so I'd guess if he stayed he was getting grad school credits which still you'd be dumb to pass up IMO.

What I’m talking about though are these guys with four years of eligibility left. Are they just wasting 30 SU credits? That’s crazy to me.

This makes me more sad than anything.

GCA is playing what 30-40 snaps a game? All specials and plays basically as a starter at linebacker. He’s decent but not transformational or even- based on his play this year- a nfl talent.

He’s a better specials player than a linebacker in my opinion. I guess I just don’t understand what his goal is. Maybe he doesn’t either.

How they played is reflected in the score.
No that is not necessarily so. If you have a totally out talented team is different than if your team just plays like crap, and the coaching was bad. A lop sided score is often obtained for different reasons.

You realize a good chunk of credits will transfer right?

Right, but this wasn’t a talent differential situation.

It was a very bad match up. Plus hopefully made worse by kids being sick.
Regardless of this weeks final score Dino needs to have the kids playing hard. So far that has been his saving grace. He really needs to keep the unified and playing their arses off for each other.
Too me that is everything. More important than wins.

Gee wiz, if we lose our best recruiter….our recruiting classes might go from 14th ranked in the ACC to…..14th. Would hate to lose that 3 star, 115th ranked CB in the country.
Dino seems to be a nice guy, however his spiel ain’t working with the recruits. He asked us to trust him without evidence, now we’ve seen the evidence……

How they played and coaching thats how.
Wildhack kind of has to show disappointment outwardly though, can’t show acceptance of it.

But given the post below though I wonder how much of that “disappointment” is overblown. I would assume Wildhack would have been aware of this.
There was some chatter about players being sick during the game and it affected play. Not making excuses just sharing what I heard. I dont always share.

Because guys who think they should be playing more dont want to ride the pine for a struggling team. They think they should be playing a lot if the team isnt good.

OK, so why aren't players leaving from 5-5 Rutgers, Florida, Vanderbilt, etc.?

There are far worse struggling Power 5 teams and they aren't leading the NCAA in mid-season departures.

I'd prefer a win over playing hard, but that's just me.

Too many on here making a mountain out of this. Let these kids leave. NONE of them are irreplaceable. Let’s fill their spots with kids that want to be here.

Just check the FBS portal. There's basically 6-12 FBS players announcing daily. It's the new normal and every programs is affected. Saw a ton from Purdue, Miami, even Bama and Clemson.

We're a stale program and brand and even though they have invested a lot of money into the program the experience for players here is not the same as it is at state schools.

Also the school is not academically superior to peer programs, which was a selling point 30 years ago.

Truth be told the school would need to drop $100 million on an athletic residence / training / support complex on campus or adjacent to make a splash and be on par with the big time programs.

They don't have the resources, finances, foresight, or space to make it happen.

We are always going to be playing catch up, which is why our recruiting is what it is. And we don't have a strong enough game plan / development staff to overcome the recruiting deficiency.

Do you really think they dont have players leaving? You know how many players schiano got rid of the past two years? Do some research. At least check the transfer portal twitter page before you post. There are kids going in daily from good and bad teams. Taj is the only impact transfer. All the other transfers are kids that want to play because they arent playing enough at Cuse. We have to use some common sense here.

What's weird is that he kind of looks down on the portal, several times stating there's a reason guys are in the portal, but his starting QB was from the portal.

Plethora of reasons guys could be in the portal.

QB that was moved to WR and then transferred to play QB once again seems like a valid reason. Simmons school didn't play an entire season and coaching staff was being shown the door so moved to a bigger stage is pretty straightforward as well.

I'm sure potential targets are looked at in how they left their prior school and, if deemed respectful, then interviewed as to the why's by potential suitors. Presume kids that burn bridges are overlooked by many schools unless their talent level is obviously G5 starter or above to guarantee a new home. Seems Dino is open to those that fit both criteria while some others may not worry about how kids left their prior school.
