Class of 2021 LB Jason Henderson (PA) Offered

Man I knew this kid was going to be really good too. Wish we would have found a scholly for him.

186 tackles! That is 15.5 tackles a game!

Second team All American. 3rd most tackles in a season in FBS history as a junior this year. 49 more tackles than the next closest player. That's crazy.

ODU’s Henderson named second-team All-American
Not to minimize that he's a good player at all.

But Split Zone Duo has a conspiracy theory that the home scorers are padding his stats like crazy (something like half his tackles were assists).

Because he's happy at ODU and not transferring?
Well thats always possible for sure. But i'm still surprised more often than not at this point with the state of football when a player with those kind of accolades would stick with a program like ODU. It was stated in this thread that he was really hoping for a PSU offer at one point. I doubt that would happen and maybe he is fine where he is at unless it was PSU.

For whatever it’s worth, Jason was ranked the 50th best player in the upcoming College Football 25 game with an overall rating of 91.

Guys had a heck of a career for himself, being named a second team All American last year after leading the country in tackles.

This kid always just seemed like the poster boy for the “football player” cliche - and I mean that in a good way.

Not sure what his NFL prospects are, considering he’s an undersized (6’0, 225) LB who seems limited to playing in the run game. His ceiling may be prolific stat piler who dominates at the G5 level (which is still very impressive), but I really wanted him to end up here.

I’m happy for him for his recognition and success.

I really wanted Henderson to make it to Syracuse too. But I kind of feel like we just got the taller stronger version of him in the 2025 class in Deslauriers who should have similar intensity, heart and production in the run game but will also be much more versatile.

He would have been a very good player here. One of those misses that didn’t seem like a big deal at the time though.

We've also had a pretty stellar group of linebackers in recent years this the "miss" didn't really hurt. Had it been a WR, DE, OL, or QB of that production level we missed on we'd probably discuss frequently

Yeah we had Mikel, Stephon and Marlowe starting most of that time anyway so we didn't miss him. Dino's staff was very good at hyper recruiting LBer and DB, rest of the roster not so much lol.

Is funny though because I remember watching Hendersons film and being about as sure as one can be of a recruit being a sure thing

i loved Henderson's tape coming out of HS. One of the best LB tapes of any player in recent memory. He went to Old dominoun because a Penn State assistant coach that was recruiting him, got the head coaching job. The tape of the big LB out of Canada and Georgia that committed to us, reminds me of the kind of violence and hard hitting that I saw on Henderson's tape!

Ive been high on him for awhile. His film is better than a lot of 4 star films I've seen this year. Kid is a tackling machine. Defensive player of the year and all state wrestler. He is athletic too. If he was 6'2 he would be a 5 star.
Nailed it

He's Shamarko Thomas as a linebacker. There's not a higher compliment I could give than to compare to one of my all time favorites. This kid is a football player and will improve whatever team he's on with that tenacity and ruthless nature.
I wasn't off the mark either here

Split Zone Duo, conspiracy theory, padding my a$$. I wonder if they even bothered to watch his tape - he is the Real Deal. To bad we didn't get him in the first place! A very, very good player.
Maybe when he's playing in the league they'll believe.

They literally came to this conclusion by watching his tape, lol.

Do you even know what Split Zone Duo is?

Let’s be honest our previous staff was extremely suspect at evaluating talent. Mostly on the offense side, but I think this is a kid we wanted all along, but sometimes you just go where you’re heart tells you and he seems to love it at ODU and is killing it as most suspected. It’s a good thing we took a lot of LB’s because out of the bunch only 2 of them were really hits.I don’t miss the previous staffs inability to recruit.

Struggling to get high end recuits doesnt mean they didnt know how to evaluate talent. Two different things

Well, we had some talent at LB in house already at that time.
Kel, Marlowe, Stefon for (literally) starters.
Sparrow, Mason, Lowery, Bailey, etc.

We took 3 guys at LB that class:
Derek McDonald (listed as a TE, but clearly was always gonna be a LB)
Malik Matthew
Austin Roon

So - there's only so many dudes you can take at one position group in a given class.

Bottom line: Doesn't matter what the staff wants.
It's what the kid wants.
He wanted to go to ODU. It worked out great for him.
