LB Shakeup

Wouldn't shock me at all if we see a lot of Jones & Kpogba next week at linebacker. 4 star LBs have got to be better than what we saw today. And, what about Richards? Definitely has the size to play LB.

The best players are playing. Why do folks some how think Dino is purposefully leaving superior players off the field? Now, that could change week to week, but right now, there is no reason to believe that absent injuries, our best players are playing.

They're true freshman 4 star linebackers. I think if Dino felt they were the best option, he's play them.

Yes, the players that impressed in training camp are playing now. Unfortunately, you don't live tackle in practice...
We have an overall undersized front 7; Lakiem looked liked a 5 year old child getting a piggyback ride from that Liberty wideout last week.
We need 3 linebackers in the game ALWAYS; and get size with Richards, and hell, Geoff Cantin in there sooner than later...

I'm sorry. Babers and/or Ward seem to think otherwise.

You should be a defensive coordinator...you wouldn't last long.

You dont leave Richards in in a situation when he might have to cover, he will get smoked against a slot receiver or a back.

You don't go 3 backers against 4 or 5 wide or you will get smoked.

There are reasons why there are different packages on defense and there is a nickel package and safeties that can cover and tackle like linebackers.

We just sucked today but what you are saying isn't very smart.

I think we will be OK in ACC play as the makeup in the B1G is bigger linemen and LBers. We got pushed around today badly. I just worry about the psychological affects on this team after this game and a possible beat down against Clemson next week. This team needs serious mental toughness. 2 road games was very hard on this team in hindsight to start the season.

You can't continue to give up 60 yard touchdown runs, it's absolutely backbreaking to a team.
We have an undersized front 4, we have to have size in the linebackers to help counteract that. If the strength of our D is the secondary, then they have to carry us. Mikel Jones is smallish and fast, he can cover underneath like Jonathan Thomas from a few years ago.

We saw a lot of Jones today.

He played like a true freshman.
He is learning on the job. Unfortunately this is necessary and all teams go through it. If we don't have upper classmen answers then you put Jones and Kopenga(sp?) out there to get the experience. Typically if the have talent we will see it mature in each game.

rushing stats. longest run from scrimmage
SYRACUSE : devito 4 , mo neal 10, adams 13 , howard 3.
MARYLAND : JJ 14, mcfarland 20 , leake 64, funk 54, tfd 21.

safe to say we have issues in the run game.

We need bear back. Although they killed us on the edges today.

I thought Army’s tackling was terrible today. I also didn’t see much from our back four and Trill.

Lakiem seems like he can contribute positively this year. The rest of the group...it may be the least talented LB group that we have had here in 30 years. Shy would have been huge this year, but we all know how that ended up.

Armstrong is just brutal to watch. He CANNOT tackle to save his life. Seems like a good kid but today was eye opening. I think Lakiem can play a little bit. But I cannot continue to watch Armstrong play. He's not getting it done and he's gone after this season. No reason for him to play over Jones at this point.

Foster was bad today too. I know he is not a linebacker but he was terrible today. Did his usual take a horrible bad angle miss the tackle back goes for a long touchdown that he has done at least a half dozen times since he has been a starter. I don't understand what part of he knows he is the last defender and if he doesn't make the tackle it's a touchdown he doesn't get. What's up with Devon Clarke not playing or highly recruited Cam Jonas.

Armstrong and fredrick were awful today. The most concerning thing though was how our dline was non existent. They got bullied and had no impact on the game.

Richards played today quite a bit.

Williams was active and makes a lot of tackles. But misses reads and gets stood up a lot in the hole and the rb goes around him. Needs to shed blockers better and plug holes faster.

Foster had at least one ridiculously bad play that resulted in a long TD run.

Frederick didn’t have a good day either. 2nd game in a row.
