Supreme Court strikes down sports wagering ban by 7-2 vote. Finally that ridiculous ban is history.

its legal anywhere isnt it just the states have to decide how to handle it..

True enough but NJ is ahead of the others in terms of the entire process and being ready to go to market. Of course the others will follow soon enough. The main point is that sports betting is no longer the province of just the state of Nevada. And of course now the hypocritical sports leagues will want some of the action. Eph them.

All the new casinos in NYS better develop a sports book or sayonara.

Can states make something illegal that is federally legal..a reverse marijuana situation sort of?

Sure (assuming you mean "federally legal). There are "dry" counties all over the US. The most famous is the home of the Jack Daniels distillery.

What this case actually said was that the Feds couldn't ban the states (and excepting Nevada) from passing laws legalizing sports betting. The Feds did have the power to pass a law banning sports betting nationwide, though.

wonder how this plays out since the NY laws dont allow betting on NY teams..

The big issue is getting mobile working we dont have to drive 1-2 hrs to make a bet.

The NY laws really make it hard for this to work with the tax on gross not net and the integrity fees. the tax alone will eat up any profit.

Removing the federal regulations over gambling doesn't make something "legal" it just puts the power in the state's hands where it belongs.

Shouldn't do anything to the state laws on the books. It just puts the authority at the state level.

NJ law allows betting on NJ professional sports teams but not the colleges (SHU, RU etc).

None of that has been decided yet. If NY is not competitive with NJ then they'll lose a ton of business to NJ. The sports leagues can go fokk themselves. They don't get those fees from Nevada so why should any other state pay them fees.

Regardless...smoke em if ya got em!!!

A Great Day For All!!!

AC in September, hitting the mostly empty beaches, yet bath water warm Atlantic...while betting football...will absolutely rule.

still if NY people cant bet NY sports which is how the NY law is written, it will effect how successful it is and if they leave it a gross revenue the casinos will not offer it at all.

So then NY State will get bupkis in terms of revenue. Btw I wasn't aware that NY State had passed a sports betting law. When did that happen?

heard yesterday they would be surprised if NY got this working before jan 1st.. even NJ who was ready to roll looks to be delayed

Monmouth Race Track (William Hill) will be taking the first bet on Memorial Day. That's pretty quick imo.

Btw I listened to Lesniak (key architect in NJ senate) on the radio and he said NJ will be paying a big fat doughnut to the major sports leagues in terms of an "integrity fee".

i don’t know about calling it an “integrity fee,” but I do think the sports leagues should be compensated for providing the content on which to be gambled. If they aren’t, I’m sure the leagues can make life difficult for states/casinos regarding using trademarks and showing games at the locations.

It’s not as if the sports leagues weren’t going to provide the content anyway
