Legalized sports betting - SCOTUS

If states are going to make money off the content provided by these leagues, do people really believe that the leagues don’t deserve a cut?
Yes, if the books lose money, would the NBA cover the loses. Do the leagues get a cut now, even though they knowing provide information which is only needed by gamblers.
Does the Academy get a cut from Oscar wagers?
Where the leagues make money is with increased viewership.

We are led by a freakin' idiot.

The State. Sen from Orange county, home of Resort World, wants to fast track this. Cuomo and Heastie (leader of leg.) want to wait and figure out which cronies to enrich first.

just charging .25 on all the bets will make it a losing proposition for the casinos.

Politicians got to politic.

NJ has been ready for years, always said...once it’s cleared, give us 2 weeks and we are Go Flight.

This passed, they said they’d start taking bets over Memorial Day.

Politicians stepped up and said, wait a sec...

On Thursday the NJ Legislature passed a sports betting bill. The only thing left to happen before a bettor can legally place a sports bet in NJ is for Governor Murphy to sign the bill. So far he hasn't signed it and word is he's using his signature as leverage to conduct other legislative business. This bill should have been signed yesterday but typical political BS is getting in the way.

Do you have to be a resident of New Jersey?

Why would they do that? You don't have to be a resident of Nevada to bet on sports there. And if they do have that requirement, just stay on the Parkway/Turnpike and head on down to Delaware. We'll be more than happy to take your money. Ooops, I mean, bet.

I am all for legalizing vices, having remedial counseling and programs to help folks not do it, and to tax the heck out of it, PROVIDED it is used to allow states to reduce or eliminate success taxes.

I'll go to Delaware when I want to set up an LLC to hide my gambling winnings.

Glad he signed the bill but typical government bureaucracy that a week has to pass from the legislature signing before anyone can place a bet.
Can't tell if serious. A one week lag between passage and implementation is like warp speed 11 because it's faster than 10.

Nah. The bill was unanimously passed by both houses of the legislature. The governor and his staff knew all about the contents of the bill before it was passed into law last Thursday. In fact the discussions had been ongoing since SCOTUS put it in motion a month ago. Murphy tried to use his signature as leverage on other business but he got some blowback pretty quickly cuz he had no leverage. Also looked kinda stoopid cuz his name was on the Supreme Court case that set legalized betting in motion. He should have signed the bill last Friday and bets could have been taken last weekend..

Interesting development regarding LBJ's hand injury after Game 1. Apparently it was a nasty injury that hampered the King quite a bit. However no disclosure was ever made to the betting public. Yet the sports leagues want to charge the states that legalize sports betting an integrity fee to make sure everything is on the up and up. lol

So, will the bettor get the exact same payoff they'd get from the "local guy"?

NY Sports Betting Bills Start To Move, As Key Lawmakers Agree On Identical Language

"So what’s in the NY bill?

The effort to legalize NY sports betting would allow for wagering at the state’s gaming facilities through partnerships with four existing commercial casinos in the state. Those would include horse racing tracks, off-track betting parlors and Native American casinos. It would also allow for mobile wagering.
Existing state law allows for wagering to take place at the commercial casinos in the state, but there’s been some question of whether New York would let that move forward without provisions that allow other gaming interests to get involved.

Sports betting revenue would be subject to a tax rate of 8.5 percent.

The most interesting part is that the pro sports leagues that have been lobbying all over the country for sports betting provisions look to be close to victory. Those efforts — led by the NBA and Major League Baseball — have resulted in provisions they appear to like in New York

The bills now say that a “royalty” of a quarter of a percent of all wagers must be paid to the leagues on which wagering would occur. In the old Bonacic version of the bill, that was called an “integrity fee.” The bills also give the leagues the right to dictate where some forms of data come from and codify direct involvement for the leagues in integrity monitoring and any investigations that might come up."

lol NYS would be dumb enough to pay an integrity fee. Are you familiar with the sports betting bills recently passed by NJ and Delaware? Both of them told the leagues to go pound sand. No integrity fee.

Recent classic example of why the leagues are full of shyte, the NBA never disclosed that LBJ had a serious hand injury sustained after Game 1 of the Finals. So much for integrity.

Hopefully, the NFL will remember this before asking the state for money to build the Buffalo Bills a new stadium. haha

Seriously why should a state pay an integrity fee? Nevada, NJ and Delaware do not. The sports books are far better equipped than the NFL to ferret out shenanigans when it comes to point shaving/fixing etc.
