Class of 2023 LeJuan Watts (CA) Portal to Texas Tech

So to confirm some behind the scenes sleuthing but no public interest really noted or visits set up here correct?

Besides following Kline, there isn’t any indication he has interest in SU. Schools I’ve heard are Texas Tech, Houston, and Gonzaga. There’s probably others too.

That is correct, it also seems he has a visit this weekend to Texas Tech so he could be off the board before the end of the weekend

I say this respectfully, the teams from 1987 to 1990 had significantly more talent than 2012, which was deep, but more than that, the pieces fit so well together in ‘12.

We had four first rounders per year, a second rounder, a Parade AA and a top 30 recruit just hanging around on the bench (young players getting Boeheimed lol). That’s over a span of three amanzing seasons in the late 80s. He just did not ink the right point guard, unfortunately. It was a bit bizarre in fact, but it was the reality. Still they were amazing times.
Actually he chased Hughes and Duncan to Rutgers where they got them in the tournament for the 1st time since 1974.
A number of highly rated players left during those years.

Too bad Seikaly didn't have one more year. Can you imagine a lineup of Seikaly, Coleman, Owens, Thompson and Douglas? With Dave Johnson, LeRon Ellis (if he still came), Richard Manning...dang.

I have no inside information and we’ll never know unless Watts decides to disclose a top 3 or something like that but I feel like Syracuse was in more than just exploratory talks and we were a real contender in his recruitment. Would have been a great pickup but I have confidence in whatever they do next in terms of portal additions

I think we might have kicked the tires, but he let all the air out of them.

Definitely, it’s a “what if” now. I wonder what will be next…all signs point to Deng but I wonder if they are also pursuing other options

Deng is the #1 option.
Have there been reports of him visiting campus? I agree with you, it seems he’s the #1 option but it also seems like there has been a lot of talk about Deng but no commitment (maybe that changes soon)

I hope so. But I really believe having a proven head coach that has a legit track record is the difference in many of these portal recruitments. Red desperately needs to have some big success this year.

It’s tough to say what attracts kids to certain programs. The previous year, Red won 20 games and got a significantly worse (on paper) portal class compared to his first year and this year.

Jim Boeheim, one of the best coaches in college basketball history, had some of the worst transfer portal classes we’ve seen, wouldn’t even compare to Red’s track record in the portal.

I think it’s about opportunity they are promised and the compensation at the end of the day.

Texas Tech just paid $4,000,000 to keep their top guy from “going pro” he was a projected 2nd rounder.

They might have a bigger bag.
Wow, first time seeing this news that Toppin is returning to TT. Yeah, if they are going to invest in Toppin, they better surround him with the best squad they can. Crazy money everywhere in Texas apparently.
