no we don't. shouldn't be a 1.

This was my thought as well. It has nothing to do with the values of Liberty. We are a major program and traveling to play a school that I have never heard of from a football standpoint. The loss of revenue from an additional home game probably negates whatever Liberty would be paying us. We are too good for this.

The Falwell's make me want to vomit, but I am ok playing Liberty , as long as we kick the living crap out of them and then in the postgame celebration we drag Falwell Jr's dead body around town like he is Mussolini

Many schools and their liberal administrations make me vomit, but I don't hold that against them when it comes to competition.

It’s disgusting that my alma mater is playing there. And tacitly supporting that madrassa. Sorry - can’t sugar coat it.

You should:
  • Start a letter writing/email campaign to the Chancellor, AD, Coach Babers, and Prince Andy Cuomo (who would definitely take up your plight);
  • Withhold any and all donations you may make to the University, Athletic Department, etc.;
  • Not attend any Syracuse University Athletic events;
  • Not attend any Syracuse University events; and
  • Stop watching Syracuse University sports.
Hopefully, that will clear your conscience of supporting an institution that is "tacitly supporting that madrassa (had to look that term up)."

To answer the OP's question, and hopefully get the thread back on track (all of this b!tchmoaning about playing Liberty is getting so old), I think it has something to do with the Dome renovation. They probably want as much time as they can between late February/early March and football to get things done!

You forgot one: Stop reading and posting on Syracuse University fan forums.

It is a football game. No one is asking an SU fan to convert. So you cannot get hammered at the tailgate, most people don't, anyway. SU has played BYU, I don't recall many conversions (or any for that matter). SU plays Notre Dame, I don't recall any conversions. SU plays Georgetown - if anything, this should make Catholics convert to anything else (even if only during the game). ;) SU plays Wake Forest and yet again, no conversions. I really don't get the animosity. SU had an opportunity to secure a 2-for-1, secure a little extra time to accommodate Dome renovations, and chalk up a body bag game; they did the right thing.

I get that people are reluctant to support in any way schools they may fundamentally disagree with, but this is a game. If you don't want to go, don't go to the game at Liberty. Games are used to tear down barriers and bridge differences to get along with each other. The fanbases will probably get along fine. They aren't West Virginia!

Their coach may stink as a human being, so what? Most coaches are jerks or worse. There is on one Dino Baber and WE GOT HIM! If SU refused to play schools based on coaches personalities, SU would not play many games.

This is a tune up game for Tommy Devito and Co. They unleash HDCB's crazy fast offense Rev. 4.0 on Liberty. What's not to like?

GO ORANGE! BEAT LIBERTY! Is it football season yet?

Comparing Liberty to ND, GT or BYU is a real stretch. I mean like comparing a penny to a million dollars stretch. It’s not a university. They don’t teach science.

In any event - I’m with you. Beat em like a drum. Go Orange!

I'm over it. We don't have to enroll, send them money or sign a document agreeing with everything they do. Just get the W and move on.
Exactly. I’ve never been a fan of Falwell and his ilk, but this is just a game.
I remember when Liberty U was first established, it was considered a joke by many. Yet, and to their credit, they’ve managed to make strides in the 2 major college sports- enough so that they’re now playing P5’s and making the Dance this past March.
IMO, all the hand-wringing is totally misplaced. They’re the next opponent scheduled for a beatdown. Let’s administer same, and move the ’k on already!

My immediate neighbor is a big Liberty booster and a former football coach there. A few years ago he informed me of their major investments into the program. Should be an interesting fall...

Liberty has been pouring money into their athletics, they seem to be legitimately trying to build themselves into an athletic power. They are angling for an ACC invite, I doubt that happens (you can guess as to why I doubt it), but that seems to be the level to which they're trying to build this.

I guess it's just sports.
I would prefer Syracuse wasn't partners in anyway with this school, though.
Yes. Educational institutions should shun other educational institutions because of their different beliefs and foundational tenants, because open-mindedness and education is what it's all about.
Meanwhile, many of the most esteemed institutions of higher learning with which SU hopes to compare itself, have just been caught in innumerable cheating and ethics scandels, including faking research to obtain dollars, buying prostitutes for teenagers, and taking bribes for admittance. SU itself continues to employ a twice convicted NCAA cheat because dollars over ethics. By all means, Liberty U is the problem.

tell that to any LGBT person in regards to Liberty and the Falwells . fu** openmindedness, it's bigotry. I would agree with you in general, if a school is conservative but doesn't discriminate and doesn't hide behind religion as the reason for being a bigot, then great, doesn't matter if one school is liberal and one is conservative. FYI, I am ok with us playing Liberty, I just hope we beat the hell out of them for many reasons
