That was what a bowl game used to be: 11-0 vs. 9-1. Not 6-6 vs. 7-5. An exciting back and forth game with a wild ending. It was fun switching back and forth between that and the Dolphins vs. the Raiders, which was decided in the last 16 seconds.
Still the "We want you to score...we don't want to score" sequence was low comedy and ridiculous. As Bees said, just take a knee. Watching a ball carrier get pulled toward the goal line by the defense while trying not to score, only to have a teammate try to push him forward and wind up on his back, causing the fumble was an exercise in absurdity. i agree with the announcers that it symbolized 2020. I think he probably fumbled in the end zone since his feet seemed to be on the goal line when the tight end climbed up over him and forced him forward, at which point he fumbled.
The pro game had a bad play, too. the Raiders had kicked a field goal with 16 second left to take a 25-22 lead. After a touchback, a blown coverage resulted in a 34 yard game with a 15 yard penalty for roughing the passer, (they grabbed his facemask!), put the ball on the Raider's 26, setting up the game winning field goal.
