Diego Pavia is suing the NCAA over his eligibility and NIL.

This is all so stupid
Good luck to any normal kid who wants to go to a good school for 4 years, play, and move on with his life.

I'm not sure college athletics were ever something for a "normal kid." It's a high bar and a grueling life.

If you further window that to "people willing to be legitimate students longer than they otherwise need to get their education" it gets exceedingly smaller--effectively zero for the most "normal" of roles (say, a D3 swim team) which don't have any meaningful NIL to stick around for anyway.

These dudes going for years 7 and beyond were inspired by Droz from PCU.

What stops them from doing that? Nothing?
Why would schools offer less experienced weaker immature four year high 18 year olds when they can instead take more experienced stronger 20 year olds

We should focus significantly more $ on the portal than HS kids.

The second part of this article discusses the NCAA considering the play 5 in 5 year rule. KYLE!!

"In perhaps more important news, the NCAA could be barreling toward a more significant change to its eligibility rules, something the association suggested in its memo to schools Monday. The NCAA’s memo reminded schools that the Division I Council is exploring a “comprehensive” review of eligibility rules to create a framework that will be “sustainable and can withstand scrutiny,” the memo said.

"There is movement from college leaders to adjust the eligibility rule in a way that grants athletes five playing seasons in a five-year time span. Current NCAA rules permit athletes four playing seasons over a five-year stretch, often referred to as the association’s “five-year eligibility clock.”"

True, but those 20 year old athletes had to get their experience somewhere. I guess it just means that you better be good enough to stick around where you want to stick around.

I'm talking about how this wrecks all college sports, not just high d1 football.
I think all sports are on the road to self-destruction. I used to be a rabid baseball fan. I didn't watch a full game this year until the playoffs, and that's only because I'm a Yankee fan. And even that fandom is waning. The money, the contracts, the blackouts, the start times. I hope I never feel this way about Syracuse football, but this wild west landscape of college athletics is headed down a bad road. I know I might sound hypocritical; our success is largely due to at least game-changing free agent this year. Maybe I'm just old man yelling at the clouds, and this will become the norm that future generations of fans just come to expect.

I'm talking myself in circles. Sorry.
