I couldn't tell - who was the RT (or was that a TE) who completely whiffed blocking the guy who blew up the play? Was that Palmer?

Ugh. Dumb play call, but your line has to at least give the ball carrier a chance. He didn't even get a piece of the defender.

Yeah that was a super dumb play call. We had them on their heals by running. Should have went play action into the end zone if you wanted to take a chance.

In his defense, asking Palmer, or any OL, to fake a block and then sprint 30-40 yards to the sideline to beat a DB is asking for trouble.

That's not fair to ask of a guy not used to getting into space. Agree with Full_Rebar. The play call was the issue. Put your players in a position to succeed.

Fair enough. In that case, then, design it so that you've got an extra receiver over there to take on another block.

Still such a dumb play call in general.

that punt gunner, oops, i mean defensive back knew exactly what to do

if you're going to run reverses, you have to give the end around guy the option to keep

He looked like he had a bunch of open green space in front of him now that I see that.

it was a bad play by the tackle.. he doesnt need to run 30 yds. he needs to get 5-10 yds out so the RB has angle to set up the block.. he went up the field then could get wide enough to create any blocking angle.

even the first drive shows the mistakes this team cant over come..
good play, bad read, nice throw for FD
bad throw, bad run by RB, bad throw.

nothing wrong with the play calling

it's a lot to ask of a tackle to track down some sprinter

the amount of missed blocks is mind boggling.. that 2nd-3rd series you had plays where 4-5 players missed their blocks no wonder they got blown up.

he doesnt need to chase him down if he goes to the right spot on the field.. he is not supposed to step up the field, he needs to go down the line then the RB would be on his butt to set up the block..

It was Palmer and yes it was a bad play call.

But Palmer took the completely wrong angle. He ran the play as if he was a TE going out for a pass. I wonder if that was the way he was supposed to position himself or if he completely botched it. If he was in position to make that block it probably goes for a short gain because the LB was coming over anyway. Field was too short.

Still a bad play call in that situation.

Palmer should not be playing tackle He might excel at the right guard position but never at tackle He is too short and stocky. Some coach is not positioning these kids correctly Evan Adams is listed as an OG when his physical and mental state are all pointing at the OT position.

for all the talk of pass coverage issues, is it a db issue? the first USF score was a LB mistake. almost ever decent USF run up to that point was a LB mistake too.. they are taking wrong angles and drops consistently.

Im not sure you can call it a bad call when you run a play that has 9 guys on D go the wrong way you and you have 3 guys to block 2 and not one of them makes a good block.
