dungey's guy would've gotten there to stop it for no gain anyway

I think the issue is we dont have any decent tackles.. a bunch of AVG guards maybe, but no tackles. even when you call a good play and the D is out positioned the tackle doesnt hold the edge and the play got blown up.

it was a bad play by the tackle.. he doesnt need to run 30 yds. he needs to get 5-10 yds out so the RB has angle to set up the block.. he went up the field then could get wide enough to create any blocking angle.
Looks like he was going to go after the LB but then saw the safety flying in and tried to get him. It was a great play by the safety coupled with the DE that made the play go too deep. Two fast kids that made great reads. That would blow up any reverse.

Im not sure you can call it a bad call when you run a play that has 9 guys on D go the wrong way you and you have 3 guys to block 2 and not one of them makes a good block.

I don't mind a reverse or end around, they often work. But this one wasn't sold at all, and some of that was the personnel on the field. I don't know how you can say 9 guys on the D went the wrong way. The LBs took a quick hop to the right, but were still facing the line of scrimmage. It was pretty easy for them to take off.

Even if the super charging, I can see this from a mile away, shot out of a rocket DB didn't make that play, the guy that Ben Lewis ole'd past would have made the tackle for a loss.

i can't stop watching the tackle looping around and chasing the gunner
His only chance might have been to Superman dive at his knees right at the 10 yard line.

I hate end arounds and reverses. They rarely work. I also hate that coaches love to call their trick plays on 2nd down for some reason. When it doesn't work you are in a guaranteed 3rd and long.

I personally like a trick play immediately after a 1st down or on second and short.

There's a place for reverses, but, they've got to hit quick and they should be used sparingly.

Yeah, even Ben Lewis had a big gain on one earlier in the season.

Personally, I think the best time to run a reverse, is the play right after you run a successful one.

If I were a defensive coordinator and was burned on one, I'd tell my team to be more aggressive and overpursue. They'll never do it again. And they never do.

At one point he was channeling the worst of the Deleone and McF'it

Just stop it.

Loving the new scold around here. "Just stop it."

Short for "Your point is invalid and I won't take the time to debate it" ... Really poor form.

No scold. Just saying it was a bad play call from the get go and putting players in a bad position based on that. You can sugar coat all you cant (defender made a good play, etc.), but calling blame to the play call isn't incorrect either.

USF's trick play that went for 6 completely blew up our safeties. They bit so hard and let that kid get about 15 yards behind them.

Trick plays don't work. Didn't you see our failed reverse?

I want to see us run one with Womack, then he can drop back and wing it to a wide open Erv, Ish or Bris downfield. The kid has a cannon.

no one is saying they never work. i'm saying that bad stuff is more likely.
It was in jest, I wasn't calling anybody out. And, I really kind of agree with you, there's a stronger chance than normal something bad can happen.

I've seen it and commented on not liking it.

All the other stuff the offense does I like

Palmer is terrible at tackle and has allowed plenty of plays to get blown up but this one is on Lester. It was a dumb play call from the 12 yard line and the personnel was a head scratcher. Strike 1 – a jet sweep to Ben Lewis. Strike 2 – a freaking walk-on taking the reverse from Lewis. Was this personnel an attempt to fool USF? Because frankly who in their right mind is using a walkon over Erv Phillips, Brisley Estime or Donte Strickland? The play would’ve been blown up no matter who got the ball but why is a walkon RB in the game?

Palmer blocks down and then kicks out to block a linebacker. The backer is actually flowing towards Lewis so then Palmer looks to block someone else but the safety read the fake immediately and is crashing almost at full speed. This can not be on Palmer unless it was Palmer’s job not to seal but to peel off looking for a DB.

The truly sad part of the play is that Lewis might have scored if he kept the ball. The DB’s dropped back into the endzone. The left end was engaged and the MLB was also about to be blocked by Emerich. Look how much green is on that side when Lewis hands the ball off. Lewis would’ve actually got around the end on the play.
