I'm not the type to go looking for Syracuse bashing or Gottlieb-esque rants during halftimes of other games..I swear...but THIS is the opening of the top story at ESPN.com

"LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Syracuse has some glaring weaknesses.

The Orange are not a great rebounding team and give up way too many second chances on the defensive glass. They're not a deadly outside shooting team. They don't have a bona fide superstar who can take over in late-game situations.

All of those flaws were laid out for the world to see Monday night against Louisville, the team that has exploited Syracuse's liabilities more than any other the past few years. "

Seriously? SERIOUSLY????

We really are the Rodney Dangerfield of college hoops. Why does ESPN have such a hard-on for us? Too many Newhouse guys in the media?

amazing. where was this article when kentucky struggled on the road against an awful auburn team?

lol funny thing is we are 27-1 best record ever and everything they say means nothing.

We shot over 50 percent from the field and over 60 percent from three the game before,

Go to player we have plenty of those. Isolation go to player we don't need one. We find the open man constantly all game.

Oh and our guards had 15 rebounds combined.

We aren't UK.
We aren't UNC.
We aren't Duke.
We aren't UConn.

Because of that, ESPN is gonna go after us.

Hey, now that you're back from Sunday, can I borrow your DeLorean?

You are en fuego tonight. You would not have gone 1-29 from outside the paint.

When will everybody get it? ESPN backed the Bernie Fine accusers. ESPN is team Davis. They went all in. Turns it out it was not as big a story as they thought.

Now the awkward part is not only did ESPN not drag us down (like they secretly wanted since that would have brought the schadenfreude angle) but we're one of the top 2 teams in the country. ESPN producers have had conversations about this. How will they talk about us? It seems they decided that rather than pump us up and get a "dickrider" bandwagon reputation, they will keep a distance from us and have the "analysts" knock us down.

The analysts are ESPN producer mouthpieces. They spew the storylines that ESPN wants to push through the guise of "analysis". It's actually brilliant, but extremely shady in my eyes. ESPN has an AGENDA. They are not AP and they are not reuters who at least claim to be unbiased. They are a corporation who is concerned about its own interests.

At this point I feel complaining about what ESPN says shows an inability to grasp the concepts I mentioned above. If we win the NC they will still find a negative. This never ends. As soon as the buzzer sounds it won't be like a movie's happy ending where the bad guys put their heads down and say congrats to the winner. The negativity will continue.

The Bernie Fine story has many different egos wrapped up with it. We will be the red headed stepchild of ESPN for many years until there is new management at ESPN, regardless of how many championships we win. Tough . Have some equanimity about this crap. I have.

I didn't know Oliver Stone was a Syracuse fan. Nice!

yaaaaah...I wasn't goin that far. I don't think it's a conspiracy.

I was just saying it was an odd article to write after we (a) WON, (b) ON THE ROAD, (c) AGAINST A TOP 20 team, (d) shooting like .

...and he starts the article w/ REBOUNDING margin (basically even this game), not good shooting (after 2 games of good shooting), and the dreadful no "go to guy" line. Seems so ing lazy and written before hand.

It was written by Brian Bennett, a Louisville grad (I believe) who worked for the Louisville paper before getting hired by ESPN.

What do we really expect?

Conspiracy is a very heavy and loaded word. Corporate interests and ego-involved is more what I'm going for. I don't think my theory is as big a stretch as JFK and the fake moon landing. Anyone with an experience in corporate environments will understand why this is possible.

This isn't an article about East Tennessee St and Morehead St that nobody is going to read. This is the #2 team in the country beating the #18 team in the country on a not very busy college basketball night. This was going to be one of the most read stories today. You don't think Louisville grad got some sort of thumbs up from above to run that article? You think ESPN entrusts the narratives of top level college basketball games to writers?

I get ya. Saying it is a conspiracy is very silly. It works out in Espn's favor to have a heel. Duke and UNC are the good guys. We are the monkey wrench in their plans.
Cowherd openly admits that he and ESPN like the regular winners winning. Since we are the oddball, the team that isnt the ESPN cookie cutter, we are cannon fodder. Espn isn't about "feel good " for just anybody, out pf benevolence. Ask Murray State. Once they lost they had their glory and pride stripped to nothing. They are just a a little guy again. Not worth analysis or coverage any longer.ESPN is just a spotlight on the world of sports, with whichever filter or angle it chooses.
They can show us however they want. Yes it makes me angry sometimes too, because they have the power to turn perception into opinion into reality for people
But that's the ugly underbelly of sports media. Gotta make the best of it.

I would actually expect more than that. My interaction with Louisville fans both on their board and in person has been infinitely more favorable than with any other. Present company excluded, I would say they know their hoops more than any other fanbase.

That was basically a hit piece.

I love it.

I want the doubters to continue to doubt all the way into April.

Keeps the team grounded, humble, and hungry.

Lazy writers love cliche's,the safety of gang innuendos and preconceptions,
no matter how irrelevant or ignorant.
Only watch espn for sports in action, never the talking heads.
There is far better analysis right here at syracusefan.com.

I really hope that ESPN continues to bash us every chance they get. That way when we win it all in April they can all eat Crow. That was by the far the most stressful game for me to watch since the 6 OT game. But I will take an ugly win everytime over a good looking loss.

Actually, Syracuse shows up in several of his movies: Born on the 4th of July, The Doors, Any Given Sunday . . . just off the top of my head.

You are right. Remember the E in the acronym ESPN stands for ENTERTAINMENT. They are not a news agency, they are an entertainment company. And just like reality tv is scripted, so is most of their "news" and "expert analysis".

It is an odd article. Especially since so many were picking us to lose. I'm not much in for an anti-SU bias/conspiracy whatever, but I can't help but remember the article I read on Sunday about UK's "valiant" (verbatim) effort against Vandy. There could just as easily been one about UK's susceptibility to zones...
