LOL ESPN.com top story

Another writer that thinks if you don't get 1,000 angry emails/snarky comments calling you an idiot, you're not doing your job.

Not worth caring about.

This^^^
I think its just thin-skinned Syracuse fans looking for a reason to complain. What difference does it make what this A-hole has to say? If you don't like/agree with his opinion, thats fine...thats why its HIS opinion. But to somehow suggest its part of some grander, nefarious scheme is ludicrous, IMO.
Is it just a coincidence that EVERY FAN-BASE thinks that ESPN hates them, or that Gottlieb singles them out? No, its called being a fan. Nothing more, nothing less.:blah:

It's that it was being presented as the top story on ESPN.com. The headline. A recap of the game.

Whereas I saw it as a predetermined piece, not recapping the game as it happened at all..

Honestly not sure its a conspiracy, but I think ESPN legitimately likes to rile this fanbase for a reaction.

The one thing that bothered me from last night, postgame when they went back to the studio the host (goofy southern guy, no idea what his name his) referred to JB as "Boeheim" 3-4 times on air. Just struck me as wrong with no "Coach" no "Jim", etc. ...you think he would ever refer to K like that? Roy Boy? Calimari? even Pitino?

Or Knight...I'm just sayin'.

Every few years, the background story on SU seems to change.

- For a while, it was SU can't shoot free-throws. We heard it over and over again, even when we were making them. Or even when our best shooters were taking them at the end of the games (even if some center was clanging them earlier in the game.)

- We've heard "SU never plays on the road." This angle seems to be unique to Syracuse. For some reason, this same theme doesn't get applied to other schools who play in-state rivals, or load up on home games because they CAN.

- For years we heard the zone was going to limit SU's ceiling, as if it matters what kind of defense you play, even if you play it well.

I don't know why some of these USA Today-style generalizations linger on and on like they do. I suspect it's just lazy reporting. We get talked about a great deal, but most sportswriters don't really want to do their homework. That's why guys like Bilas stand out so dramatically.

Sounds like you're in on it too! It's a conspiracy!

Take off the Orange-colored glasses. Do you guys even read the articles? You could argue that the article was a backhanded compliment, maybe.

But, the article essentially said that DESPITE our many glaring weaknesses-- you'd have to be an idiot not to recognize them yourself-- we still find a way to win. You quoted the article and stopped right before the main point of the article:

"Yet here's the undeniable good news for the nation's second-ranked team. The Orange found a way to trudge through a defensive morass and pull out the 52-51 victory -- their 26th win in 27 tries this season -- against one of the hottest clubs in the Big East."

AND... further down at the end...

"Yet the Orange -- who have a very real chance of heading into the Big East tournament at 30-1 -- displayed admirable grit and poise in a challenging environment on Monday night. Their very real weaknesses might not be enough to offset their many strengths."

Is Bennett slobbering over us? No. No-one could accuse him of lifting us too high.

But... he didn't say, or suggest, that we don't deserve to be #2. He didn't say or suggest we were a paper tiger. He didn't say or suggest that we'll be out of the tournament quickly this year.

Read the article again. It might not be the best compliment in the world, but it's not a hatchet-job. In fact, I can't find anything in it that isn't accurate.

And people who say other teams don't get the same critical treatment ought to read the UK comments: "They haven't really been tested as Fla & Vandy are disappointments & UNC was at home". How would that be received here if that were us? "What? Fla is top 15, Vandy's a tough place to play. UNC doesn't count cause it was home? It's not our fault it was our year to host the home&home! Blah blah".

Tell me if you can see the difference...same blog, same position on the webpage

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebask.../48320/medcalfs-musings-kentucky-frontrunners

"But their valiant effort at Vanderbilt on Saturday night -- and so many before that performance -- continued to elevate them above the nation’s other contenders."

VALIANT!!!!

Here are the headlines of the two articles:
