You just don't understand. It's like figure skating, style points are everything. We just didn't land the double axle triple toe loop in this game. Our articles are written by figure skating judges."It was an ugly win for Syracuse, but that doesn't make it any less impressive for a flawed Orange team, writes Brian Bennett. "
what a bad sentence that is. translation - Flawed Syracuse impresses with ugly win?
it used to be that syracuse's flaw was they don't win on the road. now when they beat top 20 teams on the road, it shows their flaws because they didn't win by enough

We are so terribly flawed that despite maybe the worst jump shooting performance in school history we still won a BE game on the road against a top 25 team that has beaten us 7 straight times. If that is flawed I will take it all day long.
Ah. Damning with faint praise. There is far better analysis right here at syracusefan.com.
FWIW, I think ESPN.com has made a decision to portray the hoops program if not in a negative light, in as least positive a light as possible. Compare the coverage we get on ESPN.com to si.com or Yahoo sports and the narratives are completely different. When will everybody get it? ESPN backed the Bernie Fine accusers. ESPN is team Davis. They went all in. Turns it out it was not as big a story as they thought.
Now the awkward part is not only did ESPN not drag us down (like they secretly wanted since that would have brought the schadenfreude angle) but we're one of the top 2 teams in the country. ESPN producers have had conversations about this. How will they talk about us? It seems they decided that rather than pump us up and get a "dickrider" bandwagon reputation, they will keep a distance from us and have the "analysts" knock us down.
The analysts are ESPN producer mouthpieces. They spew the storylines that ESPN wants to push through the guise of "analysis". It's actually brilliant, but extremely shady in my eyes. ESPN has an AGENDA. They are not AP and they are not reuters who at least claim to be unbiased. They are a corporation who is concerned about its own interests.
At this point I feel complaining about what ESPN says shows an inability to grasp the concepts I mentioned above. If we win the NC they will still find a negative. This never ends. As soon as the buzzer sounds it won't be like a movie's happy ending where the bad guys put their heads down and say congrats to the winner. The negativity will continue.
The Bernie Fine story has many different egos wrapped up with it. We will be the red headed stepchild of ESPN for many years until there is new management at ESPN, regardless of how many championships we win. Tough ****. Have some equanimity about this crap. I have.
1. UL have always said stay classy. Every game they come here congratulate us on a hard fought game. The last 10 games atleast one fan has. This time they lose one and 0 fans do.

If this was a factor, I'd expect the opposite: build up the teams that are leaving so that their games show a demonstrable bump in the ratings compared to other BE teams. Then use the loss of those teams as the basis of their negotiations. Not a conspiracy theorist, but remember that the Big East begins negotiations this fall for a new ESPN TV deal. It would behoove ESPN to diminish the Big East ratings as much as possible and increase other ratings as much as possible to strengthen their negotiating power.
