I really did like that title. Granted, roster stats are not always completely accurate, but he is listed as 6 ft., 177 lbs. So, not a midget by any means.

Marvin Graves size [more or less]. Here's hoping he can use his elusiveness to avoid taking big hits.

Long looked approx. 5-9, 150 pounds in the spring game (slight exaggeration...I guess). With the lack of arm strength to match.

I fear for the kid's life against FSU. Charges may have to be brought against Shafer if he does in fact decide to put him in there (half kidding).

You got me thinking.

So I looked it up.

Graves was 6-2, 195

No clue about the weight, but I'd say he's no taller than 5'10.

Long is probably 5-10 165 if I had to guess, he's kicker size but So are quite a few decent qb' she won't be able to take to many shots that is for sure. He's very thin, not tall, and frail

There is a picture from warmups last week and the kid looked jacked. Put on weight, muscle.

This dude needs to join the basketball team where every player magically grows every day. He gets smaller every time I open a new thread on him.

AJ Long, QB from the Shire

Boeheim talked to Peter Dinklage once and now he has grown out of his role.

Honestly, Long will be fine if SU does indeed put him out there. I'm actually looking forward to seeing the freshmen out there and maybe Kimble will get a shot as well. Kind of reminds me of a baseball team that is out of the playoffs in September and calling up their star minor leaguers.

I sit behind the SU bench, the kid looks like a kicker, I don't care what anyone else says about him, he may be Doug Flutie and a hell of qb but compared to the other 3 he is a runt. I see the kid up close every week, he is the smallest qb I have ever seen at Syracuse. Gymnasts and swimmers are ripped too doesn't mean they are 6' 180 pounds and again doesn't mean the kid won't win the Heisman as smaller qb's can work in the college game but he isn't 6' tall and he isn't 180 pounds

Just goes to show people will debate anything

[/QUOTE]

Do you remember Graves when he was a true frosh, as opposed to a fifth year senior?

I do not recall seeing him as a true frosh, but obviously I saw him as a RS frosh.

AJ Long is strikingly small. I was really surprised when I saw him during the spring game.

Marvin Graves was never that small at Syracuse University.

I don't think a comparison can be made between the two.

Agreed.

The kid is alarmingly small. The smallest QB I have ever seen on the Hill.

I see. So 6-0 177 as a true frosh can't be compared to 6-2 195 as a fifth year senior.

The point is, Graves is the QB that he is most comparable to in "recent" program histoy, in terms of physical stature [I exclude Troy Nunes, because I've managed to repress the memory of him QBing here]. He isn't McNabb. He isn't Hunt. He isn't Nunes, or Madei Williams, or RJ Anderson, or Perry Patterson. Those were all bigger QBs who weighed in the neighborhood of 215-230 pounds.

See how this works?

Actually Marvin would occasionally shrink and then grow so at some points during his shrinking cycles he was an astonishing 5'5". However, he always peaked in the fall and so he was 6'2" during the season.

He spent time talking to my son after the spring game he is as tall as me and I am 6' - He was lighter then probably 170ish but I bet he is more like 180-5 now. He looks to have filled out his neck, chest and arms a bit.

IB - Any 6' person is going to looks small compared to taller people (it works that way). Terrel Hunt looks like a midget next to Denzel Ward and hes 6'4"

Yes, I understand how it works.

I just don't think premise applies in this instance - there is no legitimate comparison between the two.

And I have never heard anybody make the comparison before.

I stood next to AJ after the spring game - he is really small.

Marvin Graves was thin or better, wiry, but he was never as small as Long is, while in an SU uniform - and I stood next to him when he was a RS frosh.

Plus, Marvin had a rifle for an arm - AJ does not appear to have that kind of arm strength.

The better comparison is to Doug Womack - Marvin's designated option QB. I loved Doug - he was a great athlete, but I'm pretty sure he never threw a pass as an SU QB.

Having said all of that, I hope you're right! Nobody would be happier than I would be if AJ were to turn out to be another Marvin Graves

I don't care how big or small he is - if AJ Long can play, that's all that matters to me.

I am 6'4" and I recall once being at a pizza place waiting for a slice standing next to Chris Gedney in his prime at SU. I realized how puny I was that day.
