this is all so childish. how dare miner be skeptical of spending 500 million from the outset! That sound is the bus running over, then backing up Miner. I think this will happen sooner than later. Sates don't hand out 200MM that ofthn for economic development. This isn't going to look good for her when all is said and done.

i wish skepticism was the default stance for people wanting to spend half a billion of other people's money
Tend to agree although it sounds like this has been poorly communicated all around. Her letter was from the 10th, not a lot of time for a turn around. But $200MM would have been nice. If it's not used in Syracuse it will go to some other area of the state. Why not usThat sound is the bus running over, then backing up Miner. I think this will happen sooner than later. Not sure, could be just like the article says, there wasn't a huge need at the very beginning. They are only 3 months into this project good lord, just earmark the $200mm for the project in this budget and keep it moving. How could Mahoney and the NYS/SU folks not involve Miner from the beginning? They know what her reputation is, so did they want to get an agreement in place before involving her?
This doesn't look good for Miner. Mahoney basically states she had everyone lined up to make this thing work and the only reason it's a no go is Miner.Tend to agree although it sounds like this has been poorly communicated all around. Simple... would have been a non-starter. Since they basically put it all together, now she has egg on her face. Her stance on the issue will change over the next month or so, no doubt. How could Mahoney and the NYS/SU folks not involve Miner from the beginning? and when she saw all their fancy shoes, she figured out they already went to bloomies and lord & taylor without her and pitched a hissy fit to stop it.
shes the mayor of Syracuse and they are putting it in Syracuse.she has constituiencies that she needs to deliver patronage to and you can't do that if you don't get say so on how the $$$ is spent both during construction and once it's up and running.

they're treating miner like a two year old. phony preemptive alarm WELL I GUESS WE CAN'T HAVE DESERT BECAUSE YOU WON'T FINISH YOUR CHICKEN NUGGETS knowing damn well that the kid will start eating the chicken and everyone will get desertRight. This whole thing was an orchestrated attempt to embarrass Miner. Good for her to stand her ground. The Yum! Center should be a cautionary tale for any hard-luck municipality out there. Great deal for UL, you can only say "well done" to Ramsay and Jurich for getting that project done but they stuck the city with millions more in debt that it doesn't need on its books. Makes doing everything for the city more expensive than it should be from there on out.

The City of Syracuse wasn't being asked to kick in a dime of financing on the project. The City of Louisville made a minimum commitment of $206M on it's own.

edit you can't have dessert either kid
Read Miner's letter and you'll get a sense of what her concerns about the project are. There are always costs associated with something like this for the city. $200 million is not $500 million. Who pays the rest? The "private" owner/operator? How much realistically could you get from a naming sponsor? Who pays for infrastructure improvements that go along with a project of this size? She's right to be skeptical.
There is a difference between her response and the raising and handling legitimate issues in a manner that attempts to solve problems in a fashion that cuts across sectors. The tone of this letter is something you'd expect from a litigator.
