Looks like this guy thinks SU FB's 2018 season was a fluke

Let everybody think and say what they want. Just gonna make it even better when we do it all over again next season.

Dennis Dodd has been doing this for years. Badly.

Enjoy his list from last year this time.

College Football Power Rankings: The way-too-early top 25 teams ahead of 2018

Some of my favorites:

5 MICHIGAN ST.

Sparty is absolutely loaded with 21 returning starters. Brian Lewerke is a dual-threat weapon and should have four returning offensive line starters to protect him. The defense that allowed only 20 points per game returns mostly intact.

9 MIAMI (FLA.)

Never mind a three-game losing streak to finish the season. Mark Richt is just getting started. The core of an entertaining offense returns. Manny Diaz's defense might even be better. The Canes should be ACC and possibly playoff contenders again.

16. FLORIDA ST.

With the return of Deondre Francois, the Noles could be right back in the top five. But the loss of Jimbo Fisher leaves a lot of questions. FSU must first find a way to get past Clemson.

Read this article earlier today.

To not even get mentioned, when he shoe horns VT in despite them going 6-7 this year, shows how lazy of an article it is.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he simply forgot to list us.

It's as likely as not.

Wisconsin, Va Tech, USC all top 13. Yep the man is a soothsayer

He can go fluke himself!

All most of these guys know is that we've been bad for a while, the ACC was down, and we are losing our best offensive player. In other words, we've sucked, lucked into an easy schedule, and our now going to take a step back. I think we are an 8-4 team next year, though I could see 9-3 being more likely than 7-5.

To give you an idea of where we’re at with some people... on the Paul Finebaum show, they showed ESPN’s projected top 25 for next year.

Mainly because there’s 5 SEC teams in the Top 10 and they needed to reassure themselves about the conference after last night, but I digress...

Syracuse at 15 comes up.

Finebaum’s Guest “Eh, I don’t about the Cuse there... I mean I know Dino is a good coach but is Dungey coming back for his Senior Year?”

Finebaum: “I don’t know, that’s a good question.”

They still don’t know...and I’m starting to think it is their fault.

Here’s another good question. Why is this dope on TV?

Is he? Because... umm he's got at least 2 years of eligibility remaining right? Shhhhh...

Actually the preseason ranking is pretty important for us going into next year. If we want to be taken seriously as we continue to build the program we need that number in front of SU. Stuff like this doesn't help perception.

In due time...we are clawing our way back into the club. We win we'll get ranked easier than before. The good news is Dino is universally considered an excellent coach now so the rankings should come.

OK, so a totally MEH Northwestern team is coming in at #25, in spite of losing their QB, because "they always seem to overachieve?" What the what??!!

Since 2010, they have had 3 10-3 seasons - which is DEFINITELY overachieving.
Nicely done, NW. Kudos.

However, they've also had these other season records interspersed:
7-6, 6-7, 5-7, 5-7, 7-6.

So, 3 excellent seasons, 2 losing years, and 3 totally mediocre years 3/8 = "always seem to overachieve"?

And they're losing their QB.
Apparently that's our death knell.

Army is top 25, mostly based on having a good year beating soupcans (which included giving OK all they could handle), routing a disinterested Houston in their bowl game, and having a good coach, but Syracuse
- the ONLY team to play NATIONAL CHAMPION Clemson tough wire-to-wire, and AT Clemson, to boot - and finished ranked higher - isn't even an afterthought?

College football you need a good starting point or else you have a ceiling. College basketball there are 25-30 games and plenty of volatility during the season so if you win you'll climb up and it isn't as big of a deal.

College football only has 12-13 spins of the wheel to shake things up and the teams in the top 15 or so will only lose 0-3 times. You need to be in striking distance in the polls at the start to be able to slide ahead of them when you get those opportunities.

Wagner and WMU were gimme's. 2 wins. UCONN, FSU, Lville and UNC had the worst seasons in their histories. 4 wins, 6 total. BC, Wake and WVU all had major players out 3 wins, 9 total. Clemson had the QB meltdown, that ended up as a loss anyway. That leaves 3 games against teams at full strength: Pitt, ND and NCSU. 1-2 in those games with a tough loss to Pitt. Lose senior QB. I can see what outside analysts are basing their opinions on.

Clemson transfer Hunter Johnson will be the starter for Northwestern so I'll probably follow their progress some next year.

Good thing those aren’t the real rankings ...
