Who do YOU start against Wagner?

I mean this in all seriousness...

If there is a QB controversy after this game......then we have a coaching controversy as well. There is no way on god's green earth that Allen should be considered as a starter any longer.

Give Hunt 2 games vs lessor teams to gear up for conference play and lets see what we've got. By my count, next week should feature a new starting qb, punter, wr1, wr 2 and what else am I missing? Oh place kicker as well. Anything else? Maybe TE?

Allen starts next week. But we'll see Hunt.

I tried hard to not take sides in the QB competition prior to the season. I never bought the idea that Allen had to start because the coaches brought him in. You always need more than one, or two QBs. BUt as the season neared, I agreed it looked like Allen was the guy. I did not see any of the scrimmages, and admittedly, my ability to judge QB talent is limited at best.

Just the same, my uninformed view is that Allen is too mechanical. He's getting plays called. He's making throws. He's going about is job. Hunt just looks different to me. Granted they were in the hurry up with him in there, it there was a different feel to the game. And perhaps the difference was as simple as the belief that he would be able to extend a play. I'm not convinced that Allen is the better passer. But I am convinced that hunt is the better athlete. And maybe right now that is enough. Extend plays and give our athletes a chance to make something happen. Because following the script doesn't seem to be doing it. If I'm the coaches, I start Hunt on Saturday.

And of course, that doesn't say anything about the defense.

It should be Hunt. Allen showed absolutely no reason why he should be out there vs the ACC. Yes, we dont know what we have in Hunt, but hey, lets give him a shot. What do we have to lose? Nothing.

And I dont care if it was vs NW 2nd stringers, Hunt looked like a QB back there. The offense was moving, and he wasnt looking towards the sideline with 7 seconds on the clock.

Yeah, it was the NW second string, but the things I saw that made me want Hunt as a starter all happened before the snap, so the second string defense is a moot point.

Allen sometimes gets a deer-in-headlights look when the play is coming in from the sideline. He looks confused and overwhelmed pre-snap. Hunt didn't. We got to the line much quicker, and the plays got off on time. Hunt seemed to have confidence in what he was doing. Allen had one possession in 7 1/2 quarters that went as smoothly as Hunt's, and it was the scoring drive to open the second half tonight.

Our receivers don't get separation downfield, and our line is struggling with the loss of Pugh. Having Hunt's athleticism in the backfield adds a dimension to the offense that Allen just can't. We need that to be competitive in conference play. Allen may be able to throw downfield better, but if he doesn't have time to make a 5 step drop does it matter? Especially if he can't move out of the pocket? Allen just doesn't seem to be gelling with the offensive personnel for whatever reason. At least if Hunt gets confused or the play breaks down, he can pull it down and run.

If we had an above average BCS level o-line, and Allen had an entire year or two to learn and fully comprehend the offense, then I think he could be a decent QB. We don't have either of those luxuries.

you mean other teams may try to run 2 different QBs at us???

no way in hell Allen is out till a Bowl is out of the question.

no.

way.

in.

hell.

We are 0-2. Clemson and FSU are almost guaranteed losses.

Do you realistically see this team going 6-2 with the remaining schedule with Drew Allen as QB? If no, you make the change now.

I mean why wouldn't you want to get your sophmore into the game after Allen's performance the past 2 games? There is absolutely zero reason to start Allen going forward other then to prove to everyone (and yourself) that you made the right decision in the first place. We have a young team that is very talented in the freshman and sophmore class, let them grow together.

wrong.

otherwise he wouldve started by now.

2 of the toughest teams on the schedule were right there. so you are saying you dont start your best QB for those games????

wow, who left the barn door open......

I'm saying that the offense has looked awful. There is no identity. We run a zone read hurry up offense with a QB who neither runs nor hurries up. I don't know if its the tipped balls or locked on tractor beam that drew has with his first option wideout that has you so infatuated. I do know that Allen was a big name transfer and I've heard floated the idea you want to give this guy a chance so as to not scare off future transfers. I also know that the QB is not hit in practice and that hunt showed more presence in one drive (albeit with backups) than Allen has in the last 40.

they were saying post game that some players and coaches were saying it is now an open competition...again

its wagner and tulane, then a pounding by clemson.

kids, get ready for Allen for at least 4...make that 5, more games.

Exactly what I said to the group I was watching with. There was a difference. I used the deer in the headlights, but that Hunt was not like the deer in the headlights. He exuded confidence. He looked like a leader. He was able to run with the ball which opens up the offense, he handed off the ball quickly, found his receiver and released the pass much more quicker. And I am not a football expert by any means.
And of course we can build his experience. Allen is gone at the end of the season. I was excited about Allen, but 2 games has shown me none of what I was expecting. Allen would be good if he was able to come in and be a program changer in a rebuilding year. He has not. Let's not make the same mistake of coaches before us. Paulus over Nassib ? Not again.

A new quarterback starts out with 1 TD and 6 interceptions. There isn't a football team in the universe that won't have a quarterback controversy in the wake of that.
this is not the NFL, this is college.

ped st & northwestern are so much better than wagner and tulane.

if SS opens it up on monday....then he should be fired by tuesday. for clearly, he would not know What he is doing.

SWC, i know you are not a playstation nation guy, but please...take your stat sheet and shove it.

if this staff, throws Allen under the bus...i GUARANINTEE everyone, he will never have a winning season at Syracuse and he wont see year 4, maybe 3.

and no QB recruit will EVER come here knowing the short leash given.
