Washington St lost their HC, OC and DC and 30 players portaled including star QB and would they even field a team?

Cuse had everyone save for a few portal guys.

It allows the lazy sports fan to chime in with uniformed H0T Takes...look at the Rutgirls' board

Our defense was mostly 2nd and 3rd stringers last night...nary a mention by the FOX crew (who missed a lot of informative points). Washington St had more players available than portrayed. Their QB was a finalist for the FCS version of the Heisman and gave Mateer a hard challenge. The Cougs were stronger than the media let on. BTW, hats off to the Interim HC, he did a great job.

Rumor is he is heading to be DC at Wake.

Which shows that with a line going up to over 18 why did it move so much.
The casual bet $$$ read the stories and helped the Sharps drive it up. It peaked at 19 and settled at 17.5 at kickoff IIHC.

Diggs, Perry, Grant, Bruxton down with injury, Bellamy, Gould portalling, that’s a big deal on this defense.

we played nine freshman on defense in the first half and I believe four maybe five started.

David O, Kerr, Watson, McDaniels or Long started.

I believe Those 5+ KJE, Lesaine, Heard, and Brown all got a lot of first half snaps.

We were missing six or seven starters/regulars on defense. Diggs, Buxton Bellamy, Perry, Simmons, Grant

Happy to see Tank was back playing.

I noticed that too and was highly annoyed. And of course certain Cuse "fans" on social media are already belittling our win and saying we beat a "high school team".

But did Jerry Kill come down from the booth to coach on the sideline?

I was yelling exactly this at the tv. They just kept going on and on how brave the “cougs” were . Do your homework!!

Which brings up an interesting question of what the score would have been had we not played everybody with a pulse.
Lots of really bad angles and horrible tackling. Good to get them some game experience. Being a believer that McCord is not coming back, I think the defense needs to ramp up their game.

I admit that I don't understand what we are running. I see 3 linemen with their hands in the ground, a LB? standing on the line, who may or may not rush, two linebackers and 5 dbs. Am I seeing this wrong?
Seems to me everybody beats us with slants, hitches and seams.
I really don't like this defense but realize I have to give GRob time to get his players here so I will just have to suck it up for awhile while reserving my right to complain and make stupid irrational complaints.

On the flip side, we were made out to be a goliath taking on a david. That hasn’t happened much for a long time.

Syracuse has ALOT of haters out there and they will always, without fail, make excuses for us winning no matter what.

However, I have no doubt we’ve moved up a notch in the respect department and i’ve seen plenty of complimentary comments out there as well.

I was gonna post the same thing. Annoying AF to hear the announcers go on and on and on about WSU players missing. Yea, they had guys out, but so did we and they never mentioned it. Our defense was gutted with 8 guys who were either starters or rotation players out. I don’t think some of our own fans realized that seeing some of the comments about the defense.

Diggs, Perry, Simmons, Bellamy, Barnes, Buxton, Grant, Gould all out. 3 DL and 5 DB/S. It made a difference.

Two on the defensive line started - Watson and KJE. KJE was in on the first play because I was wondering where Diggs was at.

Saw a comment on CBS YT highlight video that Syracuse "barely" made it to a bowl game. When he was called out, he justified it stating that it wasn't long ago that 9-3 was the minimum mark to make a bowl game. Some people are just plain stupid.

There is no buzz-kill for me today. SU won convincingly against a team that played hard. The defense played well enough to give SU more scoring opportunities than WSU. McCord threw for 453 yards and 5 tds…with no interceptions, finishing with the most ever single season passing yards in ACC history. Allen went over 1000 yards rushing and our top 3 receivers also all went over 1000 yards each. This was a great season with a few speed bumps. The media can spin it however they want, but SU came to play, too…And won by 3 scores. Kudos…

Also on the flip side, there was a lot of talk about how great it was that the players loved playing for Fran. A lot of respect for the culture that he is building. It would have been hard to walk away not being impressed about what he is doing. That being said, other than Diggs being out, nothing was ever said about multiple players missing for us. There was some talk of how WS was playing hard for each other and yadda which somewhat offset the whole they are depleted narrative, but overall, it seemed more making excuses as the game wore on.

Not to nitpick a post that I wholeheartedly agree with, but it looks like Peña came up 59 yards short of 1,000 and Gadsden was 66 yards short. Meeks was the only receiver to break 1,000 yards. Still, incredibly impressive.
