LSU Game Week

I'm not worried about our D-line in this game because we know what they can do and our team has always been very capable when it comes to stopping the run. What does concern me, is our secondary stopping Fournette. This kid runs with serious power and our safety's are what? 5'10 and 5'8? Our lack of size scares the hell out of me if and when Fournette gets to the second level.

if the D-line does it's job, then he wont get to the second level.

Normally I would agree, but with a player like Fournette, it's bound to happen.

Scott Shafer is about to begin his weekly teleconference. Updates to come.

Shafer reiterates that freshman QB Eric Dungey is doubtful for the LSU game.

Zack Mahoney and Austin Wilson are the main guys to replace Dungey, assuming he can't go. AJ Long still behind coming off hand injury.

Scott Shafer not overly upset about CMU DL Mitch Stanitzek, who knocked out Eric Dungey.

Shafer said this year's LSU group reminds him of the 2013 Florida State team.

Shafer on LSU RB Leonard Fournette: "In my 26 years, I think this kid's the most talented tailback I've gone up against. He's special."

Shafer: "I thought this was a misprint, they have a 6-foot-5, 308-pound tight end."

Shafer: C Rob Trudo, WR Steve Ishmael and TE Josh Parris are all ready to go against LSU. That's good news for Mahoney/Wilson.

Shfaer on dealing with injuries: "You look forward to the challenge. You can't spend too much time focusing in on what you don't have."

Shafer: there is no set Leonard Fournette on s.c.o.u.t team. RB shuffle in and out. SU is going 1 vs. 2s a lot in practice.

Shafer said Syracuse is open to playing multiple quarterbacks. No surprise there. Practice performance will dictate rep distribution.

Shafer said the staff is taking it day by day with Eric Dungey. Said he'll take "very few, if any" snaps this week.

And that's it for Shafer. Player/coordinator interviews are at 7 p.m.

Shafer maintains, on his weekly teleconference, that Eric Dungey is doubtful for the LSU game. Same as yesterday.

Shafer on Stanitzek hit: "At the end of the day it's a contact, collision sport and those kinds of things happen."

Shafer on LSU defense: "I think their linebackers are probably the most physical linebackers we've seen since I've been coaching here."

Scott Shafer on Fournette: "In my 26 years, I think this kid is the most talented tailback I've gone against. He's special."

Shafer compared Leonard Fournette to Earl Campbell. Also tips his cap to the offensive line in front of Fournette, which is very talented.

Scott Shafer on injuries: If you don't have a machine gun, you grab a tool box or a hammer and you go to work.

Shafer on using 1 or 2 QBs against LSU if Dungey doesn't go: "We'll use 'em all if we need to, we'll use one of them if that works."

I am just going to stick this here in case some of you missed it. There will be a chat tomorrow night at 8 with Bailey hosted by Tom. You have football questions...here is a chance to ask.

Bullough: We're young. And were younger on the second line. That's our issue. We played the guys we knew couple play and it was too long."

Bullough says #Syracuse hopes to have same success against Fournette as they had against Andre Williams.

Bullough says Fournette is a college version of Adrian Peterson.

Bullough says back of defense isn't giving any softer in zone than usual. just making young mistakes against good QBs.

Bullough says LSU's approach will be interesting to see. syracuse has been weak against pass, LSU's strength is run.

Lester says all three quarterbacks got reps today. Mahoney got the most. "(Mahoney) is the guy right now who is most consistent."

Lester: "Mahoney can run all facets of our offense. There are some things that Austin can't."

Lester: "He was showing a ton of promise at the end of camp. He struggled in the spring when he got here, wasn't using body kineticly."

Lester: "LSU is a whole new... Mumbles... Ballgame."

Lester on emotions of new QB each week: "Well, it's not easy."

Lester on why to keep game plan small: "Well, he's starting his first game. And we're playing LSU."

Lester on s.c.o.u.t team for Mahoney: "You have two seconds to make a decision or you get knocked out. It's great training."
