LSU & NIL Money

We all knew this was coming when A&M boosters walked a 75 million dollar check out to have Jimbo sit on his easy boy

coaching will always matter first and foremost in football, especially with 18-21 year olds. Brian Kelly is still a terrible coach. He will have to buy the best players to overcome his deficiencies as a coach and human.

You don't get the most out of guys these days with his approach to running a program. This article a few months ago was very interesting.

The article says Ole Miss spent $13m last year. Just to beat Duke in the Gator Bowl.

You can buy guys sure but for football you will always need a majority of players developed within the program.
And a lot of those guys are probably happy to take a big payday and then something smaller to shine at a program like ours for a year or two.

It's funny how the portal is ruining college basketball while making football better because it's more competitive and teams can't just hoard talent.

SU will provide football with $14 million plus whatever the collective kicks in. SU should be in pretty good shape.

Brand (and to a degree- winning) are not driving the bus anymore.
I was going to reinforce your point by highlighting BYU getting the top recruit for $7 mil, but to my surprise they have stacked a number of solid winning seasons in a row. Still a non traditional power player getting the top guy.

They're just throwing money at guys with 4 and 5 stars next to their names. They got 15 wins the last two years. We have 16.
That's still a better plan than Rutgers throwing money at kids and then having their ratings inflated.

Once you stockpile too many players who cannot get time on the field, the lesser financed teams that can offer playing time will snap up bargains.

I think Jackson Meeks is the perfect example of that. He big boy'd the Miami defender on his first TD catch and he was just buried on the bench at Georgia.

NIL along with Brian Kelly's dancing is a tough combo to beat

Spot on! Meeks is who I had in mind.
