Luke Carney

Im not going to be surprised to see Luke walk out there as the starter on Saturday night.

Even if Fran was making the switch, he would have said what he said in the presser. 0.0% chance that Fran wants Pitt to have any idea Carney is playing.

Do we not remember Pena last year at Pitt? All week Fran told us there was no way that Pena would play, too injured etc.

Guess who played at Pitt last year? Pena.

I think you mean wax, but yeah. The difference is it’s easier to tell a white lie with injury status. If carney were to start he’d be facing more questions about the change of heart.

I generally like to get to my seat about 30mins before kickoff because I enjoy watching warmups and seeing who's injured etc. will be keeping an eye on the QBs.

I think Fran still goes with Ricky. Now if he comes out and continues to play poorly after two weeks of practice you may see a change. Fran is very loyal but he hates losing and if he thinks he cannot win with Ricky he will eventually make a change.

It was also Pena.

Was tailgating with his mom and she was being very tight lipped about it and then she went into the stadium because she wanted to watch warm-ups. We knew he was playing immediately because why would she want to watch warm-ups if she knew her son was out? Also she would not say if he was playing or not which felt funny because Fran said he was not.

Shortly after the news broke he was playing.

I'm not sure this is Nixon being "stubborn" or that the solutions are as simple or obvious as you imply.

We are averaging about 34 rushing attempts per game and 42 passing attempts, even with the early scoring deficits that have dictated more passing. The problem is not the play calling as much as it is the ineffectiveness of the rushing offense (3.3 yds/attempt). Yup, we have "big guys" on the line, but they have not been good at run blocking for the most part. That's systemic more than it is play calling, IMO.

Play action is not nearly as effective without the rushing threat. And this is further compounded by teams forcing RC to throw.

We have seen what Nixon's offense can do when QB1 is effective. Any real improvement has to start there.

Well, if our QB is under-performing in the throwing game, you lean on the rush, right?

Between Willis and Nixon, I think we have a couple capable guys. If you think each of them is lacking a bit, individually, put them in together, so the defense has to account for both.

Neither Willis or Nixon are explosive backs. Neither have any wiggle to their game.

Now who’s overreacting?

True. I was at the tailgate as well. She was being very coy. But when she left to see warm ups….hmmm
Maybe Fran is up to shenanigans here with Carney as well?
