Luke Carney

I think even if we make a switch you’re not going to hear about it till 30 minutes until kick off against Pitt. No reason to give Narduzzi extra time to prep.
Just give us some hope Richmond. A reason to tune in.

If Luke is worse than Rickie… we have SERIOUS problems
Luke is a TR FR who did played at a super small school in TX. It’s like a kid going from Jordan Elbridge to P4.

Really wish Jakhari would be the obvious choice with more practices under his belt

Something has to change prior to Pitt. Would love it to be Collins actually playing with the “soft eyes” he’s being cos he’s to learn. But can’t imagine that magically happen.

And I have no problem with Fran sticking to Collins for two full games post the injury to QB1. Duke was a complete system fail. SMU is far more frustrating, and to see Gattis and a RFR OT yell at Collins is really telling. Fran is dealing with an adversity that could kill the season and damage the offseason.

Thank goodness for the bye week.

Rickie is a good kid but not a leader. And we’ve seen his flaws running an O. I think guys can rally behind Luke. Team has zero confidence in Rickie and it’s clear as day. I think that’s why they came out so lifeless last week. Steve was a leader.

That's the key - Rickie isn't a leader & the team doesn't have confidence in him. Need a winner, as Fran has often said. McCord & Angeli are winners. Carney was a winner in high school. Does he have the basic skill set to QB at this level? Rickie apparently doesn't.

out of that list, safe to say Williams is gone, its looking like it would be in the best interest of both partys for Rickie to Leave, I don't think Carney is leaving despite how much of this board thinks he should, Belin might leave if he truely feels he has no path to playing time.
Collins is definitely gone next year

I do. I think Fran and staff are blinded by Collins' potential. Also if we are going to run our full O, then Collins is probably the higher upside. But that is part of the issue right now. We CANNOT be running our full O when we do not have a capable QB.

If we are to win any more games this year, we need a QB who will manage the game and not turn it over. The coaches seem hesitant (more so Nixon) to go this route. Until they give up on throwing it 50x a game, it doesn't matter who is QB.

Yup. And we know how well the Nard dog handles it when he sees something unexpected.

He doesn't handle it at all.

You've got two weeks. I'm sure some of the coaches will be out recruiting. But you could leave Nixon behind and tell him and Gattis to get him ready as best you can.

He's been getting 3rd string or 2nd string snaps all year so it's not that much of a stretch. But you also focus on what he's better at. For example, when you're 4th and short, his legs would be much more helpful than Rickie, who was being outrun by a defensive tackle.

The problem is, Collins isn't good at anything. When he makes a few plays, we go back to those plays and he finds a way to screw it up. Some of his nice plays and throws were the same ones as his INTs and near INTs.

He makes bad decisions and is too wild with his throws. Every time we think he is breaking out, he pulls us back into bad Rickie.

A QB who is consistently mediocre would make us so much better than one step forward and two steps back we get with Rickie.

I don't think that's the issue. It's easier to lead when you perform well on the field.

How many QB's do you think we can afford next year?
Angeli
Collins?
Williams?
Carney
Belin
Lott
Grant

Obviously someone (or two someones) will have to portal out.
Good or bad, this is the reality of the portal and NIL.

Continue to bring in as much talent as you can afford for the QB room every cycle, open the competition, play the best. The rest will portal out, change positions, or be good with their standing. Apart from unicorn situations like McCord, no promises are made about playing time per Fran's MO. My understanding is that Angeli was not promised a starting spot. He was willing to come in and compete. Of course NIL was a big factor. That's the cost of building the program. You have to devote resources to the QB room.

I'm not naive enough to think this is easy or even likely, or that we will have enough NIL. But, it needs to be the model IMO.

It is definitely not like going to Jordan elbridge lol

Good post can’t agree more, what really sucks is FB lied to us, and I don’t blame him. You have to hype your guys up, but we truly believed it was a close QB comp and it clearly is not even remotely close. So we were bamboozled. And the fall off is like even more shocking because of it.

It’s like going to local CBA. And locally we think highly of CBA. A baller is a baller regardless of their HS.
That could be a closer comp. Tried to register his HS I think was in the smallest HS bracket in TX and could have telegraphed better.

I say take the risk on Carney, he's got 3 games left to burn before his redshirt expires, even throw Williams or Blein into the conversation. Something has to be done to save this season.
Are you suggesting Fran make Carney the starter for Pitt# give him a three game audition, and then bench him to preserve his redshirt if he isn't a big step up from Collins?

I think it's a terrible deciding he has to make, whether Carney will be an upgrade. But I think both Collins and Carney leave if that is his choice.

Either it's Carney now, with six games to go, or stick with Collins in the hope that he is now further along his learning curve.

If you squint really hard, you see a couple nice drives by Collins in the fourth quarter against SMU, maybe that was similar to Angeli against UConn? A kind of flick of the switch to acceptable or better performance?

The interceptions to end the game say probably not.

Still, unless Carney is clearly better, today, right now... How do you make the switch knowing Angeli is likely back next season?

Yeah, I have zero problem with FB telling the media stuff like that. As we know, QB2 is one injury away. As you said, you need to pump up his confidence. FB has no obligation to let the fanbase know what's going on behind the curtain. That's more about leadership and building culture and less about bamboozling the fans.

It literally can not get worse than what Rickie is doing
As someone who’s also an old school Bills fan, I know all about bad play. Some fans like to believe it can always be worse, when there are times it really can’t. This goes behind wins/losses. We have a QB who can’t make basic throws at this level. I watched a few games last night, and every single QB (even on bad teams) can make those basic throws. I don’t like to be critical of these guys, they give it their all, but give someone else a chance, or Fran’s going to lose all good will from last year. This is really bad.

Am I a bad person to think that Rickie even seems confused when he is asked questions in interviews? Just seems totally out of his depth.

No he’s ticked off. He’s not out of his depth football related. He has very tough decisions to make.

He brought in a highly ranked qb and then recruited over him. If Angeli was not hurt we are probably 5-1. It’s killing him. He can’t exactly abandon Rickie because he has to kill In the portal and you can’t be the coach that throws out transfers after 2 collegiate starts. Let’s say Carney goes in and struggles too. What then? It’s painful to watch young teams grow but that’s what we have.

His coaching staff has totally let him down. Not getting Yasin the ball is criminal. And the defense played a lot better in the second half….why? They outschemed the offense. Can’t get into 20 point holes at this level.

Fran will be fine.

I was taking about Rickie. I went back and edited for clarity.
