Still, unless Carney is clearly better, today, right now... How do you make the switch knowing Angeli is likely back next season?

I really don’t get the obsession with keeping a redshirt year. These are paid kids. If we need him to play he plays. They can always redshirt him down the line. Right now we need 3 wins and the winnable games are getting less and less

I understand the concern but, as you imply, this is a unique situation. He could play this season and then redshirt next season behind Angeli. If he does well and stays, we know we have a solid backup and an heir apparent for Angeli.

I feel this take is ridiculous.

No coach ever has announced the results of a position battle and said it wasn't close. The newly christened backup needs to be pumped up a little, even if it wasn't close. You might need that backup. Plus, they are already feeling defeated by losing the battle, now you think a coach is going to the media to say he isn't any good?

What would be the point? So idiot fans are fully informed to the detriment of the team?

If Fran doesn’t make this move, it’s a red flag for me. I get that he’s changed the program, but being a real leader means making the tough decisions. If he sticks with the wrong guy, we’re not making a bowl — recruits will decommit, players will hit the portal, and the offseason could fall apart. Don’t let one bad decision ruin all the progress. START LUKE CARNEY.
 
Recruits aren’t going to decommit because the QB for the next 2 years is on crutches on the sideline. They know what they are seeing now isn’t the future. And the players on the team now know that too. Players may hit the portal for sure but it won’t be because they have no faith in Angeli going forward.

Seems like the game is moving too fast for him and he gets the yips. Bad throws on what should be easy. Plus as everyone is saying, the speed of the game means his eyes just aren't processing things.

Could it improve with time? Of course. But by how much?

If you simplify the offense for him, you also simplify it for the defense.

Even the last TD was a problem Cook had to jump and reach over the defender to get the ball. I thought they might call offensive pass interference.

I think the staff is in the mind set that if they fix Collins then we could easily go 4-2 the rest of the way. And then next Spring you have a real QB battle. If we start Carney we have to white knuckle our way to at best 3-3.

IMO that is fool's gold, but they aren't ready to give up on that yet.

Fran NEEDS to make the move to Carney. It’s so obvious that Collins isn’t the guy and if Fran can’t see that, that’s a huge problem. This is the perfect time to make a switch to a true freshman QB. You have a bye week. Get him ready during the bye week.

Don’t forget. Dungey’s true freshman year. Hunt gets hurt on literally the first drive of the season to end his season. In comes True Freshman Dungey and the rest is history. Fran needs to step up make the call for Carney and see what we got. Can’t be any worst than what we have now with Collins. Give the true freshman experience. He’s likely the back up the next two years behind Angeli then hopefully the starter after that.

No, I don't think so. I love how posters will if you Win every week like you are the greatest coach and exclusively responsible for the W, then if you lose you fall off the ship and blame. Definitely somewhere in the middle, you must have a great coach and good players to win. There is definitely a curve without falling off the ledge. You must have depth, we are working. However to crazily accuse someone of actually lying and scamming people... Wow. This board and so many posters are a microcosm of the world and I find very eerily similar to job of a current modern reporter. Utterly disdainful. But that's just my belief and my belief is it is much closer to the truth undeniably than what you wrote. That is why I love what sports can do for you in life more than the actual sport itself. And yes I do believe winning will come as a result of that... In many facets, be well

If Fran wasn't willing to play Luke down 31-3
after 3 quarters, he won't make a change now. He seems to be too stubborn to make that call. It's sink or swim with Rickie, and hope for the best.

Were his couple nice drives the ones that he ran against their backup DBs playing prevent? It was garbage time, his ONLY good drives have been in garbage time

Yeah, I don't like admitting this, but there seems to be something to do this.

Collins seems ok when we have a script early, and late when the defense lays off.

We don't see much positive in between. That's a problem.

If the staff thinks we are going 4-2 with Miami, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech, all on the road, still on the schedule with even a “fixed” Rickie, they need to be drug tested. Pitt is out last chance to remain in contention for a bowl

How can you look at his play, stats, or anything else and think 4-2 is easily possible? The known entity here just had an absolute abomination of a performance against the worst passing D in college football. But the other unknown entity or entities are what they're nervous about? The dude has had 3 years being coached up by P4 coaches and still couldn't eek out an acceptable performance against a D that a semi-compentent QB would have carved up. They're gunna fix in 2 weeks what couldn't be fixed in 3 years? Trotting him out again is madness and tells me the coaching staff cares more about relationships than having the stones to make tough decisions and finding ways to win during adversity. And I say that as a Fran Brown fan.
