Luke Carney

Does not have to be all or nothing, can give carney a few series with designed or scripted plays and runs.
Sure hope to see Carney play at the Pitt game if Collins continues to struggle. I would hate to think we have a better QB sitting on the bench for whatever reason.

At this point I hope Fran starts Carney at QB the last three games of the season to get him some experience and save his redshirt year.

Collins will leave if he is benched and Carney can battle Angeli for the starting job in 2026. If Angeli wins the job we will have an experienced backup QB for two years and then Carneyntakes the reigns in 2028.

Collins has left - there is no way he will be in Cuse next year

Luke is a TR FR who did played at a super small school in TX. It’s like a kid going from Jordan Elbridge to P4.

Really wish Jakhari would be the obvious choice with more practices under his belt

Something has to change prior to Pitt. Would love it to be Collins actually playing with the “soft eyes” he’s being cos he’s to learn. But can’t imagine that magically happen.

And I have no problem with Fran sticking to Collins for two full games post the injury to QB1. Duke was a complete system fail. SMU is far more frustrating, and to see Gattis and a RFR OT yell at Collins is really telling. Fran is dealing with an adversity that could kill the season and damage the offseason.

Thank goodness for the bye week.
If you think any Texas high school is comparable to JE, you are not well versed in Texas football. Any Texas football school would knock the snot out of JE.

I think the staff is in the mind set that if they fix Collins then we could easily go 4-2 the rest of the way. And then next Spring you have a real QB battle. If we start Carney we have to white knuckle our way to at best 3-3.

IMO that is fool's gold, but they aren't ready to give up on that yet.
If we play Collins as the starter for Pitt, it is a loss, book it. G Tech another L. Maybe we can snesk past NC,maybe. no other wins this season period, even BC would be a huge lift.
This staff needs to move on, no sure thing in doing that for this year, but maybe we could catch lightning in a bottle. With the status quo we suck.

The OL gave him plenty of time to throw the ball last weekend.
Not awful maybe, but I still think our Tackles get beat around the outside more often than you'd like. Susceptible to the speed rush.

Damn, imagine if we were 5-1 with a healthy Angeli...the vibes would be immaculate around here.
I think we might have lost to Duke with Angeli. As a team, we did not handle the Clemson win very well. From the decision to return that opening kick onward, we seemed unprepared and outcoached. We also danced on the edge in two big games with those unnecessary and obvious fake injuries.

BTW, if Duke ends up with 9+ wins again, it might be Manny Diaz that is being recruited by SEC programs. I could see Auburn opening up the vault to recruit his staff and Mensah as a package. Freeze is on very thin ice.

Not last week.
I disagree. Not a lot of sacks but that doesn't mean he wasn't getting hurried. I think Mack and Weatherspoon seemed to get beat around the edge quite a bit still. Mack was even called for holding twice. But yes there were plays where Collins had some time.

I firmly believe if Fran and staff think Luke gives us a better chance at winning then Luke will play.

You can’t worry about a Redshirt in the portal era so I doubt that is impacting any decision.

Also we don’t know how ready Luke is. Remember how high we all were on Lamson based off 1 spring game?

Manny flamed out badly in Miami ... there is a reason he is not getting SEC looks. Duke is actually an ideal situation for him. He didn't handle the bright lights of Miami well as HC per rumors from some boosters.

Hugh Freeze was OK to hire though?

I would think more like CBA for lower levels.
An absolute stud at JE aint going P4. They would at least end up at CBA as a Soph.

Also, Luke played as a 9th grade QB starter and helped lead that team to a 13-1 record that season. Think he was like 48-6 or something like that as a starting QB over the 4 years he was there.
