I have no idea how accurate this is, but according to the Fayetteville Observer: if Mack Brown is terminated, as of December 1, 2024 he would get $2,812,500. If he retires, he gets $0. So I’m not surprised he didn’t choose to retire and this appears to be a board decision.

Because of the need to keep coaches on multi-year contracts for recruiting and the dollar value of those contracts, coaches retiring may be increasingly rare going forward. It makes a lot more sense to negotiate an agreement with the school to get some of that remaining money.

Do we have 0% worry with Fran over these jobs opening? I just wonder when the inevitable renegotiated contract occurs. I gotta think he's not stupid and will lever this incredible season into a bigger contract.

Feels like a quiet period so far but wonder truly what the dream job is for Fran. The one I do worry about is Penn St. The fans there loathe James Franklin

Mack apparently said once he retires, the next big event in his life is his death. He doesn’t want that so he wants to keep working as long as he can.

If he retires, he leaves the UNC program in far better shape than it was when he returned.

Seems like a good guy. I wish him well whatever ends up happening…..
