Davis might not set the world on fire, but it's clear Red's plan is to never get bullied down low again. That's progress.

Sure, but it also massively contributed to our downward spiral the last couple years and so far it's been a net-negative (not including this off-season as we don't know what we have yet). Without the portal and assuming no one wanted to sit out a year or go pro earlier than they did (big assumption), last year's team could have been Kadary, Joe, Quincy, Maliq, Jesse. Off the bench Bell, Braswell, Copeland, etc. Or something like that.

So, we need to turn it around and make it a net positive. Hopefully this is the year.

2nd team all CAA. 2 years of eligibility left. Passes it well. Finishes well. Rebounds well.

Efficient scorer from the field and the FT line (but not from the 3 point circle).

His defensive metrics were solid for this past season. The only real negative is his poor 3 point shooting (and he took quite a few of them).

He either has to stop taking those or start making them.

I like his film a lot.

Quite a bit of Quincy-like tendencies in that film: capable rebounder and scorer inside that likes an outside / stepback jumper a little too much.

Focus on the positive attributes of his game and sign this kid in Orange.

For anyone interested, here's a full game of Jyare against Xavier:

I'm nowhere near finished watching yet, so the only thing I've seen of him so far is that Transfer highlights video that someone else posted in here. One thing I always like to look at when we're talking about transfers coming in from smaller schools like this is how they fared when they faced better competition. In this case, to expand the sample size some, I decided to look at Jyare's performance against teams that were ranked in the top 150 of KenPom's rankings. This gives us a sample of 26 games over the last two years. In those 26 games, Jyare's per 40 averages were:

• 17.6 points
• 6.4 rebounds
• 3.4 assists to 2.6 turnovers
• 0.8 steals and 0.9 blocks
• 47.4% on 2 pointers
• 19.4% on 3 pointers
• 71.1% on free throws
• 47.1% TS% (for perspective, this would slot him in between Justin Taylor and Kyle Cuffe from this year)

If we focus on just this past season since it was most recent (and also was his best season), we have a sample of 11 games. In those 11 games, his per 40 averages were:

• 16.5 points
• 7.2 rebounds
• 3.1 assists to 2.3 turnovers
• 0.5 steals and 0.9 blocks
• 40.9% on 2 pointers
• 21.1% on 3 pointers
• 80.6% on free throws
• 42.8% TS% (for perspective, the only players in the last few years to shoot worse were Peter Carey, Jon Bol Ajak, and freshman Benny Williams)

Suffice to say the efficiency isn't what you want and is a pretty gigantic step down from his overall efficiency on the season. His skillset doesn't exactly lend itself to being the most efficient anyways; he takes a lot of mid-range jumpers and while he drew a lot of fouls against poor competition, he did not have the same success doing so against better teams as his free throw rate was cut in half against better teams. In his defense, it would make sense that playing as a small ball C would not fare as well against better competition; pushing around Duke's center as a 6'7" guy probably won't work the same way it does against Elon. That presumably won't be Jyare's position/role here, so he may find himself in a role he's more capable of filling.

We had ShaiG Alexander’s commitment. JB said no. Wanted Quade…..One of the reasons was that JB believed Shai would scare off Quade.

Both ended up in Kentucky.

What’s even crazier is that Shai was WAY more of a prototypical PG fit at the top of the zone than Quade.

So in order for Red not to be considered a bad coach or a bad recruiter, his job was to improve the talent on the roster, but not to recruit anyone better than the guy that was the backup power forward to begin the year? It's not like Maliq ever even became the starting power forward here. No one, not even Maliq's biggest supporters wanted him to play center again. But that doesn't mean he was entitled to, or even earned, the starting power forward position. He didn't play there much at all this season to be truthful. Regardless of who Red had on his roster he should have been recruiting the best players he could find at every position on the team. And to say Red wasn't paying enough attention to recruiting guards in the portal based on him getting a Center commitment first is as moronic as it sounds.
I would never say that Maliq was afraid of competition. But it is not disputable at this time that Maliq did not want to be part of a team with a real center plus Donovan Freeman. That's on Maliq, not Red. Even if Maliq stayed we would still need another forward. You can't go through a season with only 3 forwards especially when you lose 2 swingmen that played a lot of forward minutes last year. So I don't think Red isn't done. LGO!

We do have westry who can bounce between 2 and 3.
