Maraad Watson transferring to Texas

The one thing that I pay less attention to in this new world (and even less after today) is recruiting. Can’t get emotionally invested in any player. If they’re any good at all they’re probably not staying.

I feel like the word redshirt should be censored with the other bad words. It’s a dead and useless concept.

I’m sure we’ll be fine. We have to be. But worrying about what HS recruits we landed seems like such a waste of time.

Issue is enforceability. We already have contracts. Kids are still leaving.
That's why you need contracts for 2 years at minimum you break it, and you don't play for anyone for 1 year minimum. Congress has got to get behind this and create some logic. The way it is now is ridiculous.

So if it’s so important for the state, maybe they can step up? A lot of tax dollars in the state of NY without a flagship SUNY competing in high major football. Though by the day the ACC feeling more mid major. College sports have a huge impact on the culture. Strengthen the ties with SUNY ESF and give the middle to the rest of these flagship state schools. I’m looking for anything, just a tough week when you look back. Hopefully the bleeding is over lol. Hopeful though that the admin is many steps ahead in addressing this.
you can't give tax dollars for NIL. That is crazy. Yes, we can't afford school books for school kids but we have just bought a d tackle for Syracuse. No, we can't afford more cops on the street but we just paid for a wide out.

Why should NYS admins care about CFB at SU? Private schools in the state are encountering even bigger issues.

Now back to Mr. Watson.

When you think about it, it's bizarre. It's like rooting for a major league baseball team, but they asked the fans to pay for the players' salaries.

Stupid and unsustainable.

Completely unsustainable. And if they get what the SEC and Big 10 want, the sport will be completely ruined. Half of the country won't watch. We already have the NFL. We don't need another one.

Cannot sign a contract for nil because it would be pay for play. I know nil is pay for play in reality. With house settlement schools will be able to enter contracts. Once that happens do not need a sit out rule just sue for breach of contract and seek damages for the amount to get another equal player. Would make players think twice before breaching a contract and leaving.

What coach would want to put themselves through this in the current college football game?

Do you have to re-recruit everyone on your roster every off-season, simultaneously recruiting high school players and portal transfers, what allows and state of affairs.

But then does it really matter if someone comes along and 3x their cash and that is what the player wants (Pena).

In all seriousness, agree with you that it’s crazy to fund NIL with tax payer money. But this week we took major strides to the sport we love to support and watch being ruined.

They should just break off already and whoever wants to play that game go play that game let the universities decide what they want to do. They can turn themselve into full blown minor league systems.

I mean, they could sue them now as they're still breaking the contracts. The question will be what school will be the first to do so once the house settlement is approved. It's insane right now...

A contract for NIL is not the same as pay for play.

I imagine an SEC school will be the first to do it some big donor will get their feelings hurt enough to challenge it. At some point they will have to stop this nonsense where you can just leave teams after you make deals with them because some team comes along and gives you a better deal. Coaches do it but it comes with buyouts so I imagine that there should be something like that a buyout in the contract and that money goes to the collective. Like Pena signed with us to get him out of the contract Pena has to pay a buyout into our collective. Now he can ask for that money to be included in his next contract or whatever but there will be something at some point because this is dumb.

Agree. It’s just absurd now.

He had a lot of teams wanting him and I thought after we bumped his pay he would be set to stay in winter.
the system is corrupt! Teams are tampering with players before they enter the portal. If is like free agency in the Pros. Teams are offering money and players are now shopping their services to the highest bidder! This is the new norm. In basketball, you have entire rosters leaving in one year! How do you rebuild an entire roster in one year? This is going to continue. If you have a big season, there will be other teams lookig to plug holes and offer you cash...

At least free agency has rules and consequences. Unlike this.
