Completely unsustainable. And if they get what the SEC and Big 10 want, the sport will be completely ruined. Half of the country won't watch. We already have the NFL. We don't need another one.

At least with the NFL, when a player I’m excited for gets drafted, I know I’ll watch that player play for 4-5 yrs minimum.

Tough to even get excited about anything anymore at this point. This will continue to happen to us because we just aren’t at the level. We’ll continue to get cherry picked every single season until/if something is done and then the schools that used to cheat will just go back to that. I couldn’t handle being a CFB HC at this point.

The portal was great for Syracuse last year. Getting McCord resulted in a once in a decade season. And, the portal will allow Syracuse to fill holes each season if used correctly. For example, if a school is top heavy in talented WRs, you are probably going to be able to find a very good WR that is looking to become WR1.

Roster retention and managing the roster, portal recruiting, high school recruiting, and fundraising are the keys to winning in today's college football. (Obviously, good coaching is very important.) Hopefully, the AD at Syracuse will organize the management of the football program for on field success.

I’ve said it since day 1 the portal in the NIL era will be a huge net loss for us in the long run. Having McCord type talents fall in your lap are a once in a generation type thing.

We should be able to keep up with NIL when it’s more strategic. Both Pena and Watson are good, trending great players but their position rooms are projected to be filled out ok, and ones that get rotated fairly heavily anyway. Seem ready to attack LB, CB and extra QB before names entered portal.

Would be interested to know the numbers on this one. If we can’t pay for a 6’3 320lb true freshman all-american who can you pay for ? Those are the positions i would spend big on especially now that he had some money free up.

Cannot sign a contract for nil because it would be pay for play. I know nil is pay for play in reality. With house settlement schools will be able to enter contracts. Once that happens do not need a sit out rule just sue for breach of contract and seek damages for the amount to get another equal player. Would make players think twice before breaching a contract and leaving.

Except the kid who is making 200K will still jump and break his contract if he’s getting offered 1M.

Not really sure what more you can do than start a player that was a late blossoming recruit as a true freshman. If this is 100% $$ based hopefully something can be done to resolve it.

Yet our providing the opportunity for this late blossoming recruit to play as a freshman and get tons of film is the reason he’s getting poached.

I don’t know what to believe. But wasting money on a basketball program with no clear direction versus a football program that finally has one? Makes no sense to me. Football has and always will be the catalyst of college sports. When will Syracuse figure this out? If they had back in the late 90s, Syracuse might be in the Big Ten today.

I get the reality - he's more loyal to his actual family and is doing what he has to do to take care of them - but if everything he says is truth, then the old school guy in me says you stay in the place that treats you well. He'll get to the league whether it's here or somewhere else, so why not stay?

But I'm a middle-aged guy typing from my armchair. This is a different world for these guys than the world I knew in college.

I'm resigned to putting my trust in Fran's leadership and enjoying everything season by season. Game day festivities, the occasional roadie, getting up on a Saturday looking forward to that night's away game on tv - that's where I'll put my energy. Well, all those things and this board as well.
