A few thoughts...
- ut fans are absolutely ecstatic that Shaka is leaving
- the eyes of Texas controversy has proven how racist the ut fan base really is. I wouldn’t want to be a black head coach at ut
- Shaka was a barely .500 coach with 0 ncaa wins at ut, a school with all the money and resources in the world. Marquette fired woj because he has 0 ncaa wins... what am I missing?
- All shaka had to do was beat a 14 seed, who had never won a tournament game ever before. Abelene is the first school in history to win an NCAA game shooting as poorly as they did. Shaka shat the bed.
- Marquette must be betting on buying low

Chris Beard should take this job. Texas Tech has a decent fan base but Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere West Texas. Recruits go there because of Beard, not the program or the school or the city. Though I guess he could be holding out for Kansas.

Shaka threw the Abilene game so they would fire him and he could go to Marquette free of a buy out obligation.

Rick Barnes was the perfect coach for a school like Texas.
They don’t care as much as football but expect competitive teams pretty much every season.

He has Durant and couldn’t even get out of the second round though.

John Beilein would be the perfect caretaker for that job but I doubt he wants it.

If Beard says no I could see them going after Underwood at Illinois.

The Texas teams around Durant were just as good maybe better and went deeper. They had some great 4 years back then not just KD and LMA.

This years team was deep and won the Big 12.

Marquette is the perfect school to go to IMO. Big East only has 1 dominant program a poor AAC team like uconn went there and finished near the top of the league. A trash Georgetown team steamrolled through the conference tourney. It still has prestige though to make an at large bid easy.

His croots are more likely to stick around than any home run signings at UT. He'll do well there.

Further proof for those of you concerned when JB retires that we will get a big time coaching name if Marquette lands Shaka Smart. Like I said Hopkins first and likely will be the guy as he should be I don't care if he continues to finish at the bottom of his conference the next couple years. But if not him we will get a big name.

Hop’s got some proving to do again imo.

No one was worried about us being capable of grabbing a big name. It’s whether or not we even try to.

Personally i bet ADJW already has, and has had, a tentative shortlist.

Last I checked the conference tournament is what counted as winning a conference and got the bid.

Hes probably leaving at a good time might lose Greg Brown to the NBA.

Marquette is a good job the Big East gets 6-7 of its teams into the Dance every year and isn't that difficult. He plays in a brand new NBA arena. Their fans are probably thrilled to get such a big name.

If IU offered him in 3 years when they fire their next coach I'm not sure he takes it like Crean did.

Coach K has done less with more talent then anybody. If JB had the same talent and won what Coach K did people would be putting for sale signs on his front lawn here.
